Description of Family teenager holiday in Peru

This family holiday in Peru is a small group tour aimed at families with teenagers, the minimum age being ten years old. Travelling in a group with other like minded families, and maximum 16 people in total, we have created a very adventurous itinerary, one that is packed with adventure.

This Peru family holiday starts in Lima where you have a short time to enjoy this historic city, before taking an internal flight to Cusco, the capital of the Sacred Valley. New adventures unfold here every day, such as hiking to the high-altitude plains of Chinchero (3,760 m) and staying with a local family at their homestay. Also mountain biking from the archaeological site at Moray to the Salt Flats of Maras. All of this is good preparation, at a high elevation, for your days trekking the iconic Inca Trail, where you will also camp.

The grand finale of this trip, and the reward after the Inca Trail trek is of course Machu Picchu., a world great that is a very special place to experience as a family.

Holiday type
This trip is for families only (including any aunts, uncles or cousins who’d like to come along, of course). As long as you’re travelling with a child under the age of 18, you’re a family in our eyes. Plus, unlike other travel companies, children aged 17 years and younger receive a 10% discount off the price of their trip. Travelling our way is a bit like travelling with a group of friends. Made up of 3-5 like-minded families, the kids tend to hit it off on these trips straight away, allowing you to enjoy some well earned R&R. We often find the whole family ends up making friendships with people from all over the world, staying in touch long after the adventure ends.

Our family group sizes are small enough to avoid the crowds and reach some out-of-the-way places, but big enough for a good social mix. Our average group size of 10 allows us to hop aboard local boats, buses or trains, eat at friendly, family-run restaurants and kick back in traditional accommodation and homestays.

We know the biggest challenge on a family trip is keeping the kids entertained. So we’ve planned in advance. Nearly all of our hotels feature pools, and each day has a great mix of action-packed adventure and flexible free time. Your local leader can also suggest activities based on your kid’s hobbies or school curriculum.
“People think they are going to see llamas and alpacas everywhere, that they'll arrive into Cuzco and they'll see them in the main square”

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Family teenager holiday in Peru

On this trip: We stay in locally owned hotels and camps and eat in local restaurants. We travel in small groups and we use a local Peruvian agent, local drivers and a Local Group Leader. This fulfils part of our commitment to make a positive contribution to the local economy and is the best way of ensuring that our money reaches as many people as possible. Local overseas leaders offer a great way to find out more about the local culture, speak the language, understand the day-to-day life around them and help to ‘open doors’ to a fuller experience.

Our agent in Peru operates in a responsible manner and is committed to preserving the area in which they work. For every client travelling on any of our trips to Peru we donate £5 to Plan International, a humanitarian charity that helps children in developing countries to realise their full potential. Plan will use the donations to help fund their project to support under-privileged children in Lima. We will also match any donation made to Plan International by clients travelling with us to Peru (up to a maximum of £10 per person).Whilst in Chinchero we include a village homestay, putting money and mutual understanding into rural Peru.

Responsible code: Being Responsible is at the heart of everything our company does - full details of our code can be found on our website. The local supplier for this trip will promote our responsible travel code throughout your adventure. You will also receive specific information on this trip’s responsibility in your trip notes.

Helping to minimise negative impact: All of our customers are invited to offset their international flight emissions. Contributions go to the Blue Ventures Carbon Offset program, a non-profit organisation which provides solar stoves for subsistence communities in Madagascar, benefiting the people and protecting the environment. We also contribute £2 per person towards offsetting of your in-country travel. We fully offset all emissions from our staff travel and run an energy efficient office.

Giving something back: We have a foundation that collects the funds that you donate to us to support our projects. All our customers are invited to make a £1 per person contribution to the foundation at the time of booking. We will match every contribution that you make with our own £1. You as a customer choose where these funds are used from a shortlist of nominated projects – so it really is YOUR foundation.

Partnerships: As a company we support The Travel Foundation, a UK charity that has been established to promote responsible travel practises throughout the whole of the travel industry. We also work with a number of charity partners who work in the destinations that we visit; including Friends of Conservation and Born Free Foundation. We partner with many small grassroots projects throughout the destinations that we visit - they all share our responsible vision.
