Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

As much as is possible on this trek we have tried to ensure that the walking is done from hotel to hotel, meaning that there is no need to be transported from or to a hotel each day and reduces the need for transportation journeys and their effect on the environment. When the luggage needs to be transferred we use the hotels or local companies to ensure that the driving required is kept to a minimum.
Our suppliers on the island support us on our environmental goals. One of them arranges guided walking which emphasises the beauty of the islands environment, its flora and fauna as well as its culture and it turn helps to support it.
The Impacts of this Trip
Most of the hotels we use on Gran Canaria are small and family run enabling these establishments to continue into the future. They are the establishments which are most in need of the tourism income and their ability to continue their success is important to how the island works. We also arrange for our clients to eat either at the hotels or at small local restaurants, again keeping the income in the small towns and villages where they stay overnight. We also use either the hotel, local companies or local taxi companies on the island for luggage and people transfers necessary for this trek. This also keeps the environmental impact to a minimum.
We provide all of our clients with a list of phrases in Spanish which they can use on their holiday. This can not just help in situations where they meet non-English speakers but can be a pleasant way to break the ice when arriving at a hotel or restaurant.

3 Reviews of Gran Canaria walking holiday

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The walks were extremely carefully planned to make the most of the scenery. Loved all of it but best personal highlights were the rainforest area day 1, Tejeda days 2&3 and the descent to the barranco floor day 5.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Go for it, we have done self guided walks with a number of different companies but both rate this the best in terms of excellent trip notes, thorough planning and interesting locations.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
All of the hotels were small local businesses with no chain hotels etc and the taxi drivers were local so yes.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Excellent, would book another holiday with the same company as we were particularly impressed with the attention to interest and detail on the self guided walks - there were no ‘boring’ bits!

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
The walks from Fontaneles to Cruz de Tejeda and from Cruz de Tejeda to Aguimes.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Take the timings and distances provided with a pinch of salt - some do not appear to have taken into account the extra time needed for the ascents and the last day's distance was way out (10km rather than the 16km indicated). Unless the Parador is open at Cruz de Tejeda opt to stay in Tejeda as the alternative accommodation in Cruz de Tejeda is not great.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
Local hotels certainly benefitted.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
Good. A bit disappointed with the accommodation on the 3rd and 4th nights but we have reported this back to the holiday provider.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
We really enjoyed the walks and being away from any crowds. Brilliant scenery.
2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Go for the better class accommodation. Three of the hotels we stayed in were only just alright but the other three were very good.
3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
The economy is certainly supported by tourism.
4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?
We had a wonderful time.
