Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
Activity & Environment
Cycling trips in general have a minimal impact on the environment, erosion on and adjacent to popular paths is a growing problem in certain places and therefore our trip leaders encourage clients to stick to advised routes in order to minimise this. Throughout this trip we cycle along the canal of Carpentras passing through vineyards and scenic views of Dentelles de Montmirail.

We also visit beautiful villages like Pernes les Fontaines which is home to more than 40 ancient fountains. We operate a ‘leave no trace’ policy, whereby we ensure no rubbish including plastic has been left behind in the places we visit. To reduce our dependency on single use plastics, we also encourage our guests to pack a reusable water bottle which can be refilled throughout the trip.

Group Size:
This is a small sized group tour, meaning that we have a low impact on the environments and communities we visit and are able to ensure that we do not disrupt or lead to the displacement of local people. This number also allows us to stay in smaller, family-run hotels that cannot benefit from coach tours and other mass tourism due to their limited sizes.

UK Office:
It all starts at home where we work towards reducing our carbon footprint in our offices through engergy conservation measures, recycling policies and the promotion of cycling and walking as a means for our staff to commute. Our head office has become a plastic-free zone with the use of plastic bottles being banned in our head office and we distributed reusable water bottles and tote bags to every staff member. We also support a large number of community and environmental projects in different parts of the world and try to give something back to the places we visit.

The Impacts of this Trip

Accommodation & Meals
During this trip we spend seven nights in three-star accommodations such as the family run Hotel Best Western Comtadin. By staying in smaller accommodations and family run hotels, our tourism financially supports the local residents and boasts the economy, as most of the money generated here is usually reinvested into the area.

Where meals are included, fresh, locally sourced ingredients will be used where possible. Our expert guides are able to recommend cafes and restaurants for when meals are not provided, where guests can tickle their taste buds and try out authentic French specialities including fresh pastries and soups.

Community & culture
Although this trip is focused on cycling, there are still plenty of opportunities to learn about some of the history and culture France has to offer. We like to give back to the local communities in the place we visit, to ensure our trips positively impacts host destinations and local residents. We achieve this by visiting an olive oil mill during our ride on day four. By visiting smaller businesses our tourism and financial support enables locals to sustain their work. When cycling from Lumi?res to Roussillon we also have the opportunity to taste some local goat cheese. Day six is a free day for guests in Roussillion, we encourage clients to visit the local Thursday market or visit the Ochres site and museum to further immerse themselves with the French culture.
