Description of Peru 2 week tour
Travel through Peru, experiencing its beautiful landscapes, ancient sites and fascinating cities on this 14-day tour. View condors soaring above the Colca Canyon, sail on Lake Titicaca, explore colonial Lima and marvel at the mountain-top ruins of Machu Picchu.
Begin in Lima, exploring the modern and colonial sides to this lovely city, before flying to Arequipa, where you have a free day to explore. Then head over the high mountain pass to the town of Chivay, travelling through the Pampa Cañahuas National Reserve where you can see flamingos feeding on the mineral rich waters. An early morning excursion to see condors flying above Colca Canyon at dawn is a highlight, and there is also the chance to visit small village communities, to learn about local life. A boat tour of Lake Titicaca, visiting the floating islands of Uros and Taquile, is followed by time in Cusco, where you have a whole day to enjoy the city’s varied museums, markets and restaurants. Finally, step back into Inca history with a tour of the Sacred Valley, the train to Aguas Calientes and a guided tour of the Incan citadel of Machu Picchu.
This holiday itinerary is only a suggestion, and you can customise it to suit your interests and preferences. Included in the price is all transport and transfers on the ground, 13 nights in twin or double rooms with private bathrooms, breakfast, tours with an English speaking local guide (in a group unless otherwise specified), entrance fees and all specified meals. Domestic and international flights are available separately.

Many memorable and exciting parts but for me I enjoyed seeing the wonderful varied landscapes from cloud forest to antiplano, coastal dessert to volcanic lands and high altitude farming terraces, not to forget the floating islands on Lake Titicaca. Reaching Machu Picchu was thrilling we had been through a lot to get there. Read full reviewReviewed on 01 Jul 2019 by Sharon Hamman
The most memorable part would be having the time to walk in the towns on my own after a tour. The intimate personalized city tours with time for me to sit at a sidewalk cafe and soak up the people and place really brought the history and personality of the cities alive. It is impossible to choose a 'most' memorable part - there were so many great experiences: seeing the condors flying at Colca Canyon; the floating islands on Lake Titicaca; the convent in Arequipa. I could go on! Read full reviewReviewed on 06 Dec 2018 by Wendy Halliwell

I loved Machu Picchu. It totally lived up to my expectations - and was pleased that we did a 'two day trek' to get there as it added to the experience (actually only one day of trekking and one day of being there. Tina loved the rain forest most - it came a very close second for me. Read full reviewReviewed on 11 Nov 2017 by Cicely Olive

On our Highlights of Peru Holiday we take great care to preserve the environment in the areas you will be visiting. By travelling overland from Arequipa to Puno, and from Puno to Cusco, (in shared or public transport where possible) you will reduce the domestic flights needed to get around the country and lower the carbon footprint of your trip.We are proud to support our local operator in Arequipa in annual clean-up and reforestation campaigns. In 2013 over 400 people participated in the Colca Canyon clean-up, including school and university students, local people and professionals from Arequipa. In the Corporaque area, 550 new trees were planted by our local operator and volunteers from the local community. By working with the community on these projects, local people are involved in dealing with waste disposal in remote areas and caring for the environment in their daily lives.
We provide responsible travel guidelines to all our travellers with advice on how they can help to preserve the environments they are visiting.

We work with local operators and accommodation owners who share our commitment to responsible travel wherever possible. The Highlights of Peru Holiday includes a stay in a community run lodge in the Colca Canyon, as well as a visit to the local community in Puno. You will meet local people and eat locally sourced and prepared traditional foods. Your participation will directly benefit local communities economically and also socially, as traditional ways of life and customs are validated. We are respectful towards the communities that we will take you to visit, and you will always be accompanied by a local guide. The family run tour operator you will travel with in the Colca Canyon organises and finances regular events such as travelling clinics and environmental projects in Colca, so that the wider community benefits from tourism, not just those directly involved.
Our local operator in Cusco is owned and run by a local family who take pride in employing local people and in giving back to the wider community. They organise regular events to support isolated communities in the Cusco area, including emergency relief campaigns to areas affected by flooding during the rainy season.
