Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Georgia small group tour

Environment

Georgia is still very much an undiscovered corner of the world with a host of history and beautifully preserved ancient sites. We are aware it is our utmost responsibility to educate our clients on the importance of respecting the environment and the sites we visit - leaving behind no litter or waste. The tour visits a number of historical and UNESCO sites including Ushguli, the highest permanently settled village Europe. The history that can be seen here is pivotel in educating our customers and the money spent on entrance fees for these sites goes back into the restoration.

The maximum group size on this tour is only 10 people. Keeping our groups small allows us to stay in smaller hotels and guesthouses who cannot cater to large groups, as well as keeping our overall impact on the places we visit low. Many of the sites we visit in Georgia have a fragile infrastructure, and by limiting the number of people who walk among them we are helping preserve the sites for years to come. We do not believe in huge coach tours who have an enormous impact on historical sites.

We adhere to a strict responsible travel policy and customers are encouraged to play their part when travelling. This includes ensuring all lights and electricity are switched off when leaving a hotel room, asking that the hotel does not change towels and bed sheets everyday unless this is necessary and disposing of litter in the appropriate way.

Community

Overall, Georgia is still a relatively off the beaten path holiday destination and tourism is slowly growing in the country, providing employment opportunities for the residents. By taking clients to Georgia we are supporting many local businesses who rely on the money from tourism.

We use local Georgian guides on this tour, providing business for the community and also giving clients the best educational experience possible as they learn about the history and culture of this fascinating country.

This tour uses a private minivan throughout, working with a local supplier who provides both transport and a driver. This form of transport allows the group to get further off the beaten path and explore ruins, remote villages, and eateries that might not be public transport routes. Using a local driver is the best way for clients to see hidden gems of the country that they wouldn't otherwise experience.

Over the course of the trip, our local guide will take customers to the best and authentic restaurants to showcase the amazing food Georgia has to offer. They stick to smaller, locally owned establishments where the money from tourism has a bigger impact.
