Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
This trip proves that tourism can be a tool for conservation, by respecting wildlife and biodiversity in every possible way! Specifically:
* You will become a conservationist yourself when participating in this project! You act towards the conservation of the dolphin population in the National Marine Park of Alonissos (NMPA).
* Included in your travel package is a donation to the Greek charity that operates the monitoring of the dolphins and the seals of the NMPA.
* Wildlife species are not harvested, consumed, displayed, sold, or traded.
* No captive wildlife is held. No petting, feeding or swimming with wildlife (dolphins, seals)
* The trip supports and contributes to biodiversity conservation, including natural protected areas and areas of high biodiversity value.
* Interactions with wildlife, considering cumulative impacts, do not produce adverse effects on the viability and behaviour of populations in the wild. Any disturbance of natural ecosystems is minimized.
* Alonissos Island is a Green Destination and implements measures such as a “plastic-free policy”.
In order to keep our environmental impact as low as possible we sail depending on the wind and use as little land transport as possible.
* No planes used within the duration of the programme
* Use responsible and sustainable means of travelling: the week-long means of transportation is a catamaran. Sailing is the mode of transportation – no use of the engine unless it is needed.
* The mentor on board of the catamaran is a local, thus reducing the CO2 emission that comes with flights.
* Offering vegetarian or plant-based foods
* Minimizing power usage by supporting on board living
Community

The Impacts of this Trip

We support the local community by choosing small family-owned businesses for our activities and our meals in each island, rather than big chains or investors from the capital and abroad. The Sporades islands Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos are outside of the mass touristic destinations of the Greek Cyclade islands (Mykonos, Santorini) and one of the most pristine islandic destinations offering real local lifestyle. We also give back to the local community by offering a helping hand to clean up one of the local beaches and by promoting environmental practices that support their area.

We offer this holiday off season! Weekly departures before (whitsun holiday) and after the busy Summer months (well into September). All-in-all an effort to combat overtourism and promote undertourism.

Local providers are used for nearly all services: kayaking, cycling, scuba-diving. Local guides and Greece-based agent to handle everything on the ground. Finally, the beach clean-up will offer locals the opportunity to participate.
