Description of Patagonia & Easter Island holiday, small group

This fabulous fortnight in Patagonia includes four nights on Easter Island where the natural beauty of the Pacific Ocean combines with the ancient mysteries of the Moai and cultural traditions of indigenous Rapa Nui.

Of course, Patagonia is no slouch when it comes to natural and cultural highlights with the glacial grandeur of Torres del Paine and Los Glaciares national parks combining wonderfully well with time spent in Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile.

Criss-crossing from Chile to Argentina allows you to compare and contrast a couple of South America’s most exciting countries with ample opportunities to become enveloped in local life including two nights at an authentic gaucho ranch close to Perito Moreno glacier and three nights on Easter Island.

As part of a small group you’ll be invited to share experiences every step of the way. Tour leaders, local guides and drivers ensure safe and informed passage through some of Patagonia’s most stunning natural scenery and most exciting South American cities. Internal flights across Patagonia also allow for an efficient means of making the most of the landscapes and cultural sites over the course of two weeks. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity – get ready to grip it with both hands.

Hello. If you'd like to chat about this holiday or need help finding one we're very happy to help. Rosy & team.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Patagonia & Easter Island holiday, small group

We have a strict environmental policy to make sure that the environments we visit are not damaged or spoilt in any way. Our “Leave No Trace” ethic is applied to this trip and as tour operators, it is something we are careful to promote. Your guide on this trip will have been trained to uphold this policy and all clients are fully briefed on appropriate/responsible behaviour whilst in wilderness areas.

We are very aware of the economic, ecological and ethical impact tourism can have on ancient cultures and fragile environments. We realise that taking clients through this region can have a negative impact on the environment if not handled responsibly and as such, on all of our trips we go to great lengths to minimise the negative and accentuate the positive - after all, there are also many good things that the traveller can bring.

During this trip we visit the historic Rapa Nui National Park (the indigenous name for Easter Island). This UNESCO World Heritage site is a concentration of the legacy of the Rapa Nui culture and by visiting the various archaeological sites such as Tahai we can directly support the management and conservation efforts of those that care for the Island. These efforts include conservation of materials and finding ways to protect the iconic but fragile Moai statues from the effects of weathering.

By keeping the group size to a maximum of 12 and choosing appropriate modes of transport and exploration where possible, we can also minimise the human impact on the fragile sites we visit – particularly important as this trip visits some delicate ecosystems. On days 5 and 6 we will explore the beautiful Torres del Paine National Park on foot. Home to many rare and wonderful species of wildlife this national park was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1978. Hiking is a great way to experience the natural wonders on this trip, allowing you to appreciate spectacular scenery like the Perito Moreno glacier in closer proximity.

When you take one of our trips, we make a contribution to “Carbon Clear” – an organisation devoted to ‘offsetting’ or ‘neutralising’ harmful greenhouse gas emissions caused by your flight. This is done by funding projects across the world that will reduce greenhouse gases on your behalf through sustainable energy or rainforest restoration.

In Argentina and Chile we use local ground handlers - this means that all the operational costs go directly into the local economy and helps to improve employment opportunities in remote regions. By incorporating homestays, locally owned hotels, family run restaurants and the services of guides and drivers into our itineraries, we ensure that money you spend on your trip goes directly into the local economy and local communities benefit from tourism.

During our time in Calafate you will have the unique opportunity to stay at an authentic and characterful estancia. Staying at a working ranch, watching cattle be herded home to the farm as protection against puma attacks and other such activities will give you a huge insight into the gaucho legend and life of the rural communities for which Argentina is well known.

In order to facilitate an enduring support structure for the communities we visit, and to show a commitment to these values, in January 2009 we set up a charitable foundation through which we can directly channel funds to both existing NGOs and our own development projects. In addition to organising ethically sensitive tours, having our own charitable foundation allows us to raise money – through the cost of our tours, charity trips and fund raising events – which can then be used to fund various projects in education, sanitation, reforestations and a number of other important issues facing developing communities.
