Description of Tailor made holiday in Greece

This tailormade holiday in Greece explores key archaeological sites that will reveal the secrets of ancient civilizations, a must for the amateur historian that has always wanted to visit these iconic landmarks.

Over nine days you’ll tour Mycenae, and the ancient amphitheatre of Epidaurus, where 14,000 spectators would once have sat, all able to hear perfectly thanks to the superb acoustics. See the beautiful seaport of Nafplio as it stretches up the hillside, and Delphi, thought by the ancient Greeks to be the centre of the world and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll have the option of wandering around with a guide to bring them to life. A day is also taken for a jaunt over to the Peloponnese, and ancient Olympia, where the first iteration of the Olympic Games was held for over 400 years from the 8th century BC.

After returning to Athens for a day, during which you’ll see the superb Acropolis and visit the New Acropolis Museum nearby to view its unearthed treasures, you’ll transfer by ferry to the volcanic island of Santorini. Here, Akrotiri awaits you, the Minoan Bronze Age settlement that was possibly a basis for Plato’s ‘Atlantis’. You’ll have time to wander the attractive and lively capital, Fira, see the famous Red Beach, or take a volcanoes and hot springs boat tour – let’s be honest, not many sightseeing trips sound as exciting as that!

From Santorini a quick zip across to Mykonos, where you can stretch out languidly beneath the sun for a day, take a dip in the sea, or roam ‘Little Venice’, before a return ferry to Athens.

One for the history books.

Except our tour operator company we own a small hotel in Tripoli, our base city. During the stay of the clients in our hotel, we make sure to recycle glass, paper, metal and plastic. In most of our tours and also in our hotel clients receive the Travellers Code of Conduct which includes all the necessary information about applying responsibility during your holidays concerning socio-cultural and environmental factors.

The Impacts of this Trip

By choosing our holidays you choose responsible travelling. The founder and the general director Mr Panagiotopoulos (born and raised in Tripoli) is deeply concerned about the responsible type of travelling and tries the most not to affect our area in a negative way concerning the ecological and socio-cultural factors.
Our travel company consists of local employees (drivers, guides etc) in order to benefit you from the cultural point of you as well as for the economic benefit of our area. In our trips you will have the opportunity to visit many different places and meet the locals so you will immerse in the Greek way of living. Last but not least, your presence in our area will be a strong negotiation card with the local authorities in order to develop our area by financing infrastructure for responsible tourism. This is something that is missing from Greece as the country was relying on mass tourism up to now.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Exploring Poros on foot: great views in the almost uninhabited western part, and climbing up to the top of Poros town and seeing where the locals lived. Also, Hotel Saronis on Agistri was wonderful, especially the breakfasts. The restaurant in front of it was great too. Both very friendly.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

In May, pack a waterproof, we had three sudden torrential downpours.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

I don't think Greece has got the message about single use plastics. Unfortunately, we were served with plastic straws, and on Love beach all the bowls, cutlery etc. were single use plastic. So unfortunately our presence resulted in more of it being used.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellent, especially our guide Marianna, and our driver Dimitri.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Visiting ancient sites which we'd planned to do for many years.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be aware that there is a lot of climbing up slopes and steps to the various monuments, and, at this time of year, in very warm sun, so good shoes and a sunhat essential. Also pace yourself as some of the climbs up (and down again) to monasteries, for example, are steep and uneven and more than 200 steps each way.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, it employed local staff, used small local hotels and restaurants. Not sure about environmental impact as we had our own car and driver.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was very good overall. Comments:

Our driver/guide was new to the job and lacked detailed information which wasn't surprising as he wasn't really a trained tour guide, but a pleasant young man who did his best. I was concerned that he used his mobile while driving and said - when I asked him why he did this - that it was a new vehicle and the 'hands free' holder hadn't been installed. We thought this was unacceptable.

Dear Margaret,

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review for your wonderful moments in Greece. It's greatly appreciated.

I would like to comment about the environmetal impact that our office recycle paper and plastic and from each holiday package we offer 1% to a reforestation programme for the mountains of Peloponnese.

Also, we can provide licenced archaeology guide but there is a really huge difference in the price. Our drivers are all trained by us to provide the best services and deliver an excellent tour to our guests although the specific driver is new in our team and has a lot of things to learn, we believe that you're finally satisfied.

As we want to offer high level services, we use excellent condition cars and trully the specific car is brand new. It seems that the hands free couldn't been connected for some reason however is really often that the driver needs to speak with the office for details for make sure that the tour will accomplish as planned.

So, we would ask for your understanding for the specific issue.

Kind Regards,
Vasiliki Damoka
