Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Italy cultural tour, Romagna region

Environment

We believe that the immense natural and artistic heritage of Italy needs to be preserved from mass tourism that has provoked in the last years a very bad impact on environment and local communities.
And that's why we try to apply slow travel criteria on all our tours.

-Our itineraries that can be completed without haste, with a limited number of destinations each day - ensuring our customers can gain a greater enjoyment from the local area;

- We keep groups small, so that travelers can fully experience the destination, and this way we protect the local area from the harmful impact of large tourist groups.

- We do our best to apply the principles of responsible tourism, enshrined in the charter of the Association for Responsible Tourism in Italy. AITR's charter complies with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria.

On this tour you will have the opportunity to see the most authentic side of big town as Milano, Bologna and Verona thanks to our "buddy" local guides who have designed special itineraries for our customers.

You will visit artisan's laboratories (such as a Violin maker in Cremona )and learn from the masters about their hard work to keep the excellence of the Made in Italy in all of their products.

You will take advantage of the visit to farms scattered throughout the territory also to visit small villages off the traditional paths: an original and genuine understanding of Emilia land and table! Witness organic farming methods, practiced in this region for generations - the secret behind the rich flavours of the food produced and cooked in this area.

Community

On this particular tour you will visit some small towns and villages that still preserve the most genuine side of Italy. You will have the chance to get in contact with local artisans, wine and food producers, guides. Because we strongly believe that people are an essential part of the trip.

We have selected producers that have expressed a desire to show visitors how they grow and harvest grapes and food, whilst also ensuring they maintain ethical and environmentally beneficial growing practices.

We prefer to work with locally-owned service providers and vendors (transport, accommodation, catering, etc.), or small scale, regional providers. Whilst on this tour we encourage travelers to spend locally and fairly.

Additionally, we have developed for main categories of partners and providers a specific approach in order to contribute to their training in becoming more and more effective in hosting and experiences.

Whether immersed in the natural landscapes of lovely Emilia or the bustling streets of Italy’s most cosmopolitan city, Milan, we aim to give you a personal introduction to these special places that you wouldn’t glean on your own.

To do so, we work with native guides that know the area inside and out, and can give you a local’s perspective of each of your destinations. Collaborating with these knowledgeable folks supports not only their individual livelihoods, but also the lesser-known communities and locally run businesses that they help us promote.

Staying at a typical inn and small B&B in Milan, rather than international chain hotels, also ensures that your dollars spent on this trip will go towards small business owners and then circulate in the local economy.
