Salsa holiday in Cali, Colombia
Description of Salsa holiday in Cali, Colombia
All levels of experience are welcome on this 8-day salsa holiday in Cali, Colombia where you set the pace. Assigned your own professional dance tutor from an award-winning dance school, you will have private daily classes learning all the most popular Latin styles from the Salsa, Mambo, and Bachata to the latest salsa fashion in Cali, the Salsa choke. As the classes are individually tailored, you can choose what you learn, opting to broaden your Latin moves or hone your skills with a select one or two.
Classes generally take place in the afternoon (although morning lessons can be arranged on request too) leaving mornings and evenings for you to explore. We have also included a city tour to introduce you to the history of the city and its main attractions with an experienced local caleño guide.
Cali really comes alive at night and to help you put your skills into practice outside of the classroom, your dance partner will take you out twice to the best local dance and live music clubs on offer so you can dance the night away alongside the locals. There is one other accompanied night out with fellow students from the dance school.
This is an excellent starter holiday for those wishing to travel onwards through Colombia with a confident grounding in the history and culture of its salsa capital. Feel free to speak to us about options for extending your tour.
Dance lessons start on any Monday all year round.

PlanetWhen out on tour we encourage learning about the country we are travelling in, the local culture of the people we work with and the areas we pass through. Our local Colombian guides conduct detailed briefing meetings and informal talks with clients to inform about and discuss with them all aspects of local life and try to answer any questions clients may have about the local area. This helps our clients to understand the country more and to better appreciate the lives of the people who live there. We encourage everyone to learn some Spanish before they come on tour so as to be able to communicate with local people, even at a basic level.
By staying in local homes and small locally owned hotels as much as possible, we are able to make a direct economic input into local communities. We enable interaction with local people through community activities and other events thus enabling our clients to meet and get to know people from the area. All our dance tutors and specialist guides are local people and they are treated and paid fairly. Where possible, food is purchased locally and we encourage cooking with local products. We ask everyone to bring donations of clothing and other items to present to local community projects we visit thus directly benefitting local people.
PeopleWe organise and promote socially and culturally aware travel, and strongly believe that our trips provide a unique and authentic way to be involved with local people when travelling. Our trips are organised through a wide network of local representatives, guides, teachers, travel and accommodation providers, all of whom facilitate getting to know the local scene beyond the mainstream tourist trails. By operating locally, we are able to actively contribute to the local economy.
We include accommodation in a small, locally owned hostal in the historic barrio of San Antonio which ensures that monies are spent at a very local level and we are able to directly contribute to the local economy. Our dance classes take place at a Colombian owned dance school, working with locally trained professional dance teachers who we believe are treated and paid fairly. Lessons are mainly in Spanish and so we encourage our clients to have some language skills, even at a basic leve, which facilitates cultural integration.
We support local Colombian businesses in every aspect of our trips - accommodation, transport, meals, drinks and activities - thus contributing directly to the local economy and community. We also regularly organise donations for local schools and educational projects. We recommend that clients consider donations of items such as toiletries, baby and childrens clothing for projects we support.
