Description of Piedmont cycling holiday in Italy

The Monferrato region of beautiful Piedmont is the destination for this eight-day cycling tour. Pedal through ancient villages, vineyards that stretch as far as the eye can see, farms, woods and rolling hills. Gaze out over Romanesque churches and imposing castles, to an Italy that feels little changed from centuries ago.

Located in the Southern Piedmont, the westernmost region of Northern Italy, Monferrato is not far from Turin and can be easily reached from Genoa and Milan. Green and lush in spring and summer, colourful in autumn, the Monferrato scenery is best enjoyed slowly and this cycling tour allows you to go at your own pace. The typical cycling distance per day is around 55km and you’ll cover a total of 250km in the six days of cycling.

Once you’ve appreciated the landscape on two wheels, get to the know the region even better through its food. We bring our visitors to cities off the beaten track, to discover a fascinating food culture. Alba, for example, is a Medieval city of truffles and great wines, while in Cherasco and Bra (the home of slow food), there are numerous culinary treats to take time to enjoy. While tasting some amazing food and staying in some beautiful places, you will also be putting money back into the local economy, and supporting local food producers and accommodation owners.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Piedmont cycling holiday in Italy

Environment

For this tour, we have chosen a wildland shaped by erosion, from the Ticino Park to the hills of Monferrato. It's a destination that we think should be explored with the most respect possible for the environment: hence our use of the train for transfers, whilst the bulk of this holiday is on bike.

We prefer slow forms of travel, allowing tourists the luxury of being a "traveler", giving them a way to determine their own runtime, slowing down, disconnecting from life many routines, and enjoying the rhythms of the nature. We also do this to promote maximum contact with the places visited, which are the typical rows of vines or the alleys connecting blocks of stone farmhouses.

Community

During our tour, which primarily consists of a visit through the hills on your bike, we also give the opportunity to get in contact with the place through food. We bring our tourists to cities off the beaten track like Alba Medieval, a city of truffles and great wines. In Cherasco and Bra (the home of slow food), where again we can enjoy the pleasure of taste. We put money back into the local economy of these cities, supporting local food producers and accommodation owners.

We want to support the development of small local farms, so our choices always fall on the entrepreneurs and locals. The tours offered by us, in addition to food, show the visitor the main character of a city, such as the Roman archaeological site of Bene Vagienna.

We respect land rights and access a when crafting our itineraries and remain aware of any social or traditional event that might be taking place in the areas visited, such as trade fairs or local festivity.
