Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Rome holiday, city and countryside

The ways to discover the rolling green hills, ancient roads and historic sites that abound in and around Rome are many, but we opt for traveling by bike or on foot whenever possible to help preserve the environment of this culturally rich land. Indeed, walking and biking ensure that you experience the lush and tranquil nature of the Roman countryside and chaotic charm of Rome’s city center to the fullest, but with the least impact possible on your surroundings. Along the way, a local guide will share the history, stories and cultural tidbits of this area with you, whilst you visit the many ruins and mind-boggling monuments preserved over centuries and scattered throughout the land where Italy's most ancient city lies. During your trip you will stay in a characteristic country inn and small B&B selected for their adherence to sustainable policies, from energy consumption to waste management and water reduction; so sleep tight and enjoy your stay!

On this tour of Rome’s historic city center and the beautiful Roman countryside you will visit both major attractions, like the Coliseum and the Vatican, as well as special places off the normal tourist route. Driving tourism to lesser known communities and neighborhoods helps build a travel industry that supports locally run restaurants and lodging, rather than large chains and international hotels. In addition, this in-depth approach to immersing oneself in another culture contributes to the livelihoods of artisans and small businesses such as Fontana Murata Winery where you will take a tour and taste estate-produced wine, olive oil and locally sourced food typical of the region. To foster an even more personal experience for our guests, we work with local guides who will accompany you during your trip and share their insight, knowledge and recommendations with you at each junction. By establishing direct relationships with the area's natives, you will get a truly authentic taste of “living like the Romans do.”
