Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Having travelled extensively ourselves and witnessed first-hand how tourism can have either positive or negative effects on local communities; we vowed to always endeavour to leave a positive mark on all places we visit and send clients. Our clients’ requirements are of primary importance to us at all times, as we know that our growth and success depend on their continued support.

While we are there: We will visit protected areas, such as the Etosha National Park, Namib Desert, Sossusvlei and the Sesriem Canyon. While in these protected areas, we will ensure that our clients are given the correct guidance to minimise impact on the environment and respect the natural wonders of the area. Typically these areas also ask for a fee to appreciate the protected area. These fees go to conservation and infrastructure efforts directly supporting these protected areas.

On Safari local guides will ensure that wildlife is viewed both safely and responsibly whilst educating visitors on the environmental issues of the issue.

As a company: We strive to operate as a paperless company as far as possible, and recycle wherever facilities are available. We use toxic-free fair trade products whenever we can.

While travelling: Many of the resorts and operators we work with offer our clients free drinking water refills to minimise wastage of plastic bottles through out the trips; and ask clients if they want items laundered before simply washing towels and linens unnecessarily, to conserve water. While in remote areas, we carry rubbish with us and ensure we do not disturb anything in the natural environment.

This trip has a strong focus on exploring natural wonders with the aim of fostering a love of and respect for the environment and subsequently conservation in the areas visited.

The Impacts of this Trip

This tour has been designed to both operate in a way that minimises our impact on the environment that we visit and to maximise the benefit that our clients can have on the host community. We endeavour to follow responsible guidelines, as with all trips. Guests will be briefed on responsible tourism at the start of the trip, and encouraged to be mindful of the environment and respectful of local people and culture.

While we are there: We encourage our clients to have a truly immersive experience while in Windhoek, as well as support the livelihood of the local community. We will visit protected areas, such as the Etosha National Park, Namib Desert, Sossusvlei and the Sesriem Canyon. All these protected areas and reserves use guides who are local to the area and have been trained, bettering their communities. These guides typically communicate all the do’s and don’ts while visiting these protected areas.

In Swakopmund we visit local markets and partner with local activity providers to provide options such as sand boarding.

While in Namibia, our Clients will be immersed in the natural wild African beauty by local guides. Game drives will reveal the untamed wild as they interact with Africa’s largest elephants, endangered rhinos, leopards, lions and giraffes. The Namib Desert will also deliver the most peaceful experience and our Clients will explore and be educated about unique parts of the desert, the flora the fauna and so much more. Local guides will also take Clients to experience the Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon.

Where we stay: As a boutique travel company we recommend unique and authentic travel experiences. We prefer to use local suppliers who recommend accommodation that will add to the uniqueness and sense of adventure of the trip and we therefore encourage our clients to stay in privately owned accommodation where possible to support the local community. Where the hotel owners source staff, produce, products and other services from within the local community. This gives the local people an opportunity to gain financially from the increase in tourism in the area.

Typically with all our tailor-made trips to destinations we enjoy offering new routes and encourage travel to areas that are not on the main tourist trails and further support communities.

2 Reviews of Namibia holidays, safari & desert discovery

4 out of 5 stars

Reviewed on 25 Apr 2018 by

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The desert and Namib Naukluft National Park.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be prepared for long, uncomfortable hours on the road. If known that we would spend three days on a truck with no suspension and that provided limited game viewing on safari, we would have booked with another company.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Not sure.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

It was an incredible trip, Namibia is a stunning country. But some aspects which were important to us, in particular the quality of the transport, were not to the level we requested.

Read the operator's response here:

The vehicle used on this trip is a custom built safari vehicle with a pop-up roof and huge windows. Etosha can be dusty at times which is why full days of game viewing are better in a closed vehicle rather than an open game driver vehicle where you spend a lot of time driving through the park.  Unfortunately, this is the nature of Namibia with distances and the slower roads.

I am pleased you enjoyed the country and do appreciate your feedback as it is important to us.
