Description of Croatia family activity holiday, Korcula

Our Croatia family activity holiday is all based on one island, and is quite unique in that it is tailor made to suit your family’s interests, age groups and so on. One thing that always stays the same, however, is that Korcula Island will always be stunning with its secluded coves, hidden caves, superb local cuisine, island produced wine and pine forests. As well as a fascinating history and architectural heritage.

The focus of this holiday is pure and utter fun. Our group size is maximum twelve people which means that we can keep the week nice and flexible, checking in each night with everyone about the activities the next day, if they are going to be influenced by weather, and what they favour most. There is a lot to choose from too including sea kayaking, windsurfing, wake boarding, snorkelling, buggy driving and biking and, a favourite with many of our guests, a sailing trip on our yacht into Dubrovnik Old Town. We have a suggested itinerary below, to give you an idea of what the week may bring.
During all our activities we are extremely stringent with safety, and want to reassure parents that excellent safety procedures are at the core of what we do.

Your accommodation:
You will be staying at one of our Boutique style Villas in the village of Lumbarda, which will be allocated according to your family size. All have spacious double bedrooms & private bathrooms, there is an open plan living room, kitchen and also a balcony with sea view. Most of the villas also has an outdoor swimming pool, Restaurant, hot tub, gym and table tennis. The village itself has a beach and there are plenty more nearby. It is the perfect location for all our activities.

Food:
During this trip we include 7 breakfasts, served on your private balcony and also 7 picnic lunches. We also include one dinner on the last night, on board our yacht. For the other evenings, we can transfer you to different spots on the island to enjoy local cafes and restaurants at your choice. From inland agrotourism places to finer dining fish restaurants and great pizza options. The island also produces some great wines. We also cater for vegetarian and raw food meal, since the owner and his family loves vegetarian and raw food style cuisine.

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

Environment

On our trips we walk , snorkel ,kayak and hike on established paths and tell our guests not to feed, fish, hunt and disturb wildlife we encounter.

On Our Captain's Villa We have installed solar panels on our roof and this system provides hot water in the summer for our guests needs, and in winter it collects energy of sun and turns it into heating. In the house only natural materials are used, stone and wood.

Our Motor Yacht for day excursions is specially designed WITHOUT Propellers, instead our engineers developed water jet system which is safe for sea animals, and our guests to swim safe around the boat.

In our office we minimize printing actions and recycle paper. Most of all, we ensure that negative environmental impacts are drawn to a minimum.

By booking this trip you get to see a whole new perspective of this beautiful part of Croatian Islands by sailing on our Yacht, kayaking and snorkeling on the hidden and best preserved parts of the clearest sea in Europe guests are given the chance to explore in a ways which are least harmful to the environment.

Community

By booking this trip you bring much needed income to the people who are still recovering from the war-torn years, as this was the area severely affected by war, especially Dubrovnik old city. This trip ensures that the local people benefit as much as possible in the form of jobs (we employ local guides and drivers only) and provision of accommodation (we use our own family owned Captain's Villa ). We also use our own transfer services, buy food from the small farms and work on developing responsible waste management by stimulating waste recycle.

By buying local products you are supporting this countries’ economy and helping Croatia to stand on her feet again! We consider it our responsibility to lead efforts to maintain and preserve the integrity of this fledgling sector by petitioning the introduction of tighter controls over the use of the country’s natural resources.

Captain's Villa is our small family run hotel that employs local people and in that way is irreplaceable in the community. Our hosts in the small family restaurant prepare breakfasts , lunches and farewell dinner with our own home grown food and fish from our own pond.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Croatia/ Korcula is just stunning and we got to see so much of it, all so
relaxed, very few decisions to be made. Fabulous accommodation.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Be relaxed. It’s not exactly as described but all works out amazingly well. If you
are expecting child free, it isn’t, but groups are small and the children who
were there were all lovely.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

The company is all locals and family-run, which is great. No real eco/ social
angle though.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Fabulous. Rarely been so carefree whilst doing so much. Organisation, whilst sometimes a little opaque, was great, from airport pick up to final dinner and activities rearranged to make sure everyone got to do what they really wanted.

The company only employed locals which made a big difference to the local economy. We benefited from their local knowledge and a more genuine, friendly service.

Fantastic, magical. Not just the organisation of the holiday itself but also the opportunity to share the experience with other like minded families. Have made some new friends and will definitely be back with more of our friends from home.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Jumping off the boat into the clear azure water, snorkelling, hearing the fascinating recent history of the island of Lastovo from the local guide, the
friendliness and patience of all the skippers and guides.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

A brilliant type of holiday for older children / teenagers and adults who love water activities. I think it would be a bit more difficult with babies/toddlers and young children - some of the boat rides out to the islands were over an hour long (and no space / it would be too dangerous on the boat for kids to crawl around) and there are no sandy beaches at the end, just beautiful coves and bays where you would be swimming out of your depth.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, everyone seemed to be local / living locally. We stayed in houses/villas scattered around the island thus spreading the income to different landlords. We
would all walk, cycle (some even kayaked!) or drive (if the villa was far away) to the Captain's house where we would have a communal breakfast before going
on our separate ways depending on the activity we were doing that day. Lunch was either on the boat or back at the Captain's house.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

As a lone adult with three teenage girls it was the best kind of holiday - we could laze about on the boat enjoying the stunning scenery and then once we
reached an island get the adrenaline going by jumping off, swimming, snorkelling, SUP. The teenagers also, of course, loved the tubing and the buggy rides. We were up and out every morning by 9am with absolutely no complaints - definitely a first on any holiday! The skippers and guides were friendly, funny and experienced. Breakfasts and lunches were relaxed affairs - you joined or not depending if it suited you that day.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The most memorable part was how personal and accommodating this company was. It felt like it was a friend making us breakfast, taking us out on his boat with a few new friends, showing us his favorite places, making us lunch and taking us to quiet coves to swim and snorkel. Really first class customer service, stunning country, great wine, and personalized.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Do it! This is the best vacation our family has ever had! Know that many activities involve hiking up and down big hills. Wear shoes you can walk in easily. By the 2nd day we generally decided to wear our swimsuits all day with a coverup on top. It was fine exploring towns that way, and it gave us more time in the water after lunch. (There are two locations to change on the boat). I just enjoyed all the swimming and snorkeling so much.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

This was a very local, authentic vacation. Eating local foods, drinking local wines, and using reduced packaging (for example, bringing one large bottle of water with reusable cups for all on the hike). We even ate fresh sea urchins and fish caught by our captains!

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Spectacular!!! Best I’ve ever had. I’m recommending Croatia as a destination, and telling everyone they MUST stay with Zoran and Blaza and with the operator. I think there’s no way to make it any better- just spectacular!

It is perfect for families with any age children, even grown up

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?
