Description of Luxury holiday in Brazil & Argentina, private departure

This luxury tailormade holiday of Argentina and Brazil highlights many of the must-see destinations across both countries, as you travel from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires overland and by air.

Get your trip started in the best way possible with a stay at the legendary Copacabana Palace, set on the famous promenade and offering sublime views. In Rio you’ll take guided tours of Sugar Loaf Mountain, by cable car, and of the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, by cog railway.

You will take the two-hour flight to one of the world’s most spectacular natural landmarks: the Iguazú Falls, 275 falls thundering dramatically over a 60m high cliff surrounded by dense tropical forest, with a day here to indulge in whatever activities take your fancy, from sightseeing flights to rainforest trekking.

Flying on to Buenos Aires, the cultured, cosmopolitan capital of Argentina, you’ll take a guided tour of the city’s many lively neighbourhoods, taking in landmarks including the Teatro Colon, the Plaza de Mayo and bohemian La Boca. Enjoy a vibrant tango show with dinner, before your final excursion takes you just outside Buenos Aires to the small gaucho town of San Antonio de Areco.

Here in the Argentinean pampas, you’ll stay in a traditional estancia, livingly restored to resemble a countryside chateau, in a setting as peaceful as it is beautiful. You can ride horses here, watch the birdlife, take a carriage ride, and reflect with more than a few smiles on what you’ve seen and done over the past week.

Environment

This luxury holiday suggestion in Argentina in Brazil takes you to some of the two countries’ iconic highlights, staying in romantically-styled, good quality hotels which we judge to have made some efforts to be eco-friendly and institute policies aiming at sustainability.

You visit Rio de Janeiro, a beach-fringed city with a magnificent natural backdrop of rainforested mountains as well as innumerable cultural riches. You stay at the prestigious, historically significant Belmond Copacabana Palace, which has a firm sustainability programme. Its 24-point action plan covers everything from recycling cooking oil and grey-water harvesting to the installation of waste0saving devices and a reduction in packaging.
Rio itself, as a city, has woken up to the advantages of sustainable tourism and the municipal government has set out goals to clean up pollution and make the city a benchmark for sustainability and environmental preservation. The sewerage system has been expanded and the cycle network has doubled in size. Clean-up initiatives designed to tackle water pollution and sanitation issues have been evolved.

You will move on to visit the monumental Iguazú Falls, one of the New (2011) Seven Wonders of World, which are located in the Iguazú National Park, designated by UNESCO a World Heritage Site in 1984. In 2013 UNESCO categorised the park, blanketed in tropical rainforest bursting with wildlife, as one of Exceptional Universal Value, devised to encourage collective protection of cultural and natural heritage. Your park entrance fee will be instrumental in efforts to give financial support to conservation efforts.

Stay at the romantic Hotel das Cataratas, the only hotel located in Iguaçú National Park, facing the falls just a few hundred metres away. The colonial style hotel was inaugurated in 1958 and is surrounded by Atlantic rainforest. It was a pioneer in adopting ecological policies and the first to be awarded the ISO 14.001 Environmental Management Certification in Latin America as a designated Ecological Resort.

Cross the border into Argentina and proceed to the luxury lodge Puerto Bemberg, a family owned property on the fringe of unsullied rainforest. Its founders are well known as advocates of sustainable natural environments and the lodge has achieved a Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Tourism Certificate. This programme measures the property's impact on one or more of the following: environment, community, cultural-heritage, the local economy. The hotel has a programme to encourage you and all guests to donate native trees which will be planted in its nature reserve, thereby helping to restore the habitat at the same time as offsetting your carbon footprint.

Your holiday continues to the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, a huge, dynamic, city with a tight colonial core, elegant residential suburbs a refurbished port district and several culturally significant art-focussed neighbourhoods. As such, it is fascinating to visit but suffers from vehicle-generated pollution. Your hotel here is the Alvear Palace, which expresses commitment to the efficient and rational administration of natural resources and, in line with our business philosophy, has evolved occupational safety and health standards and adopted environmental policies including recycling, water and energy reduction and waste treatment.

Community

As is the case with all our private journeys, we adopt the services of locally recruited guides and drivers in each location in order to promote local employment. This also ensures that you have face to face contact with people who are intimately familiar with their environment and community, and have a vested interest in protecting it so as to ensure the future of tourism in their region. This will help to put a brake on the current tendency for people to leave their homes to seek work in the large urban centres, which harms the socio-economic viability of the countryside and smaller settlements and puts pressure on the infrastructure of the larger cities.

Our partner company in Argentina has an internal policy of donating recyclable items to a foundation which converts them into toys for deprived children. In 2015 they intend to support native members of the Huichi, Toba and Mapuche tribes as well as other artisan crafts people by purchasing and distributing small gifts created by these people both to support them financially and promote local culture. They support the Mapuche Community project where volunteers bringing medical aid and education to remote and impoverished native Indian communities.

The Alvear Palace hotel in Buenos Aires accepts its responsibility as 'the Hotel' within the community, and implements all proactive measures in their power which contribute to the promotion of eco-consciousness. The hotel’s volunteer programme, founded in 2006 aims to make a contribution towards the improvement of deprived sectors of Argentine society. A team was formed with a group of employees who take action to support needy children and their families.
