Description of Crete cooking holiday, artisan produce

This Crete cooking holiday is your opportunity to master the secrets of the island’s authentic dishes, spending a week in a stunning Greek villa. Surround yourself with likeminded travellers and friendly Cretan farmers and producers as you travel around and discover culinary delights, wine and culture. This is a fully immersive experience, learning to prepare traditional dishes outdoors using fresh and local ingredients, with plenty of time to relax and feel like you are on holiday as well!

Accommodation, meals & transport

You can choose your style of home for the week, with options from cosy, traditional villas, to more luxurious larger properties. We think the island is best experienced at ground level so we have bikes available for you to use; it is also possible to arrange car hire. And of course, all the food included is delicious and varied.

Greek cooking workshops

The highlights of the trip are the three practical cookery sessions during you will learn the secrets of Cretan cuisine. And worry not; whilst your meals are cooking there is plenty of chance to try the local wines. Most of the sessions take place outdoors using a woodstove, make the most of the island ambience.

They key to Greek cooking is the many fresh, local ingredients harvested using traditional techniques. As such there are a number of trips around the island to discover a variety of gastronomical delights. We will visit unique villages to learn how ingredients such as cheese, honey and olive oil are produced using traditional techniques. Furthermore, wonder no more why there are quite so many friendly goats wandering around, how many varieties of Greek cheese there actually are or why Greek cuisine uses so many herbs, as your friendly guide will answer all your questions, however wacky! This section of the trip won’t be passive though; get ready to participate in harvests and cultural events such as wine stomping or olive picking, events as cultural as they are practical. And of course, there will be time to spend enjoying the Crete’s beautiful beaches and biodiverse Natura nature reserves.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Crete cooking holiday, artisan produce

Cretan gastronomy is directly linked to the diversity of the local flora. Most of the recipes we use in our cooking workshops include wild herbs and aromatic plants. Naturally, we are committed to conserving the local natural world.

We run a permaculture system at the Olive Farm, we grow our vegetables from heirloom seeds, keep a plant nursery and a seed bank and we also encourage the growth of many wild species of edible greens and herbs within the premises of the farm. Our values and philosophy as a company include the protection and conservation of the local wildlife.

Additionally we have set up our own compost system at the farm, run our own environmental education program and we have constructed everything using recycled and rescued materials. When it comes to transportation we prefer bikes and we also encourage our guests to use bikes. Sustainability is our core valued and we practice it very day.

We love all things local. We love the local culture and we are here to communicate it. We want you to experience rural Greece from the inside and appreciate each destination not only for its food and wildlife but also for the people. We only support local businesses:

Our accommodation options include traditional houses and villas owned by the locals. The produce we use during our cooking classes comes from artisan producers from nearby villages. It’s the local community that forms the backbone of all our operations, so supporting and preserving the local produce and crafts is our purpose.

Our wish is to grow as a company along with other businesses in the community so that they can in turn support us better with time. This way collectively we will restore and conserve the rural communities in Greece and assist in reviving our cultural heritage.

We socialize with our suppliers and we often share endless meals. Come along and meet each and every one of them.
