Description of Vietnam discovery tour
In just under three weeks this tailor-made tour of Vietnam will take you into the colourful heart of the country, through chaotic cities and into rural communities.
This trip is all about seeing beyond the country’s main highlights. Yes, you’ll explore Old Hanoi and watch the lanterns sparkle on the water in the beautiful, ancient Hoi An, but you’ll also help on a working farm in Hue and swap Halong Bay for neighbouring Bai Tu Long Bay. Just as beautiful as its better-known neighbour, the waters, islands and limestone karsts of Bai Tu Long Bay still retain an untouched magic. Staying onboard a traditional Chinese junk ship here is a highlight of this tour.
You’ll also have the opportunity to visit local tribal communities in hills of rural Vietnam, raft through lush green valleys and experience the warm hospitality of a family homestay. Vietnam is a feast for all the senses, not least your tastebuds, and delicious street food will be waiting to tempt you at every turn.

We specialise in small-scale, authentic accommodation full of local character. Because our accommodation is small, the environmental impact is lower than if you were to stay in a large resort. We’re particularly fond of our beach bungalows on beautiful Palm Island. Made from natural materials, the resort owners work hard to support the local marine life by minimising their own impact on the natural environment. They’ve already received some positive feedback from the local fishermen for their efforts.Throughout this itinerary you’ll travel by a variety of different transport methods. While we use private cars for the smaller transfers, you’ll also travel by shared minibus and public train for some of the longer ones. The overnight train journey from Hanoi to Hue is a real winner, bringing you closer to the local people and cutting down your carbon footprint at the same time.
Meanwhile, at home in our office in Brighton we are dedicated recyclers and have teamed up with a local business to recycle our food waste.
People
We believe in putting people first and we’re really proud of the excursion near Hue included in this itinerary. You’ll escape the city and lend a hand on a local farm in the Vietnamese countryside. Not only will you gain a greater insight into the daily life of much of Vietnam’s rural population, you’ll also be putting money into the pockets of the local people.In Hanoi you’ll explore the mesmerising Old Quarter with the help of a local guide, who’ll also help you learn the local lingo. Just knowing a few words and phrases will help you get closer to the local culture as you continue your journey through Vietnam.
Throughout this itinerary we only use local guides and drivers, making for a more rewarding experience. There’s no knowledge like local knowledge!
We also support a local project in Vietnam, the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation. This grassroots charity has been reaching out to children in crisis throughout Vietnam since 2003.
