Description of Inca Trail & Peru holiday, tailor made

This Inca Trail and Peru holiday is a tailor made adventure, travelling independently but with local expert guides and porters. Starting in Lima, you take a domestic flight to Cusco, the ancient capital and gateway to the Inca Trail.

Five days of this ten day holiday are spent on the iconic Inca Trail camping at spectacular spots along the way, including Llactapata ruins and Puyupatamarca, an archaeological site at an elevation of 3600m. At such an elevation, it is not surprising it has gained the nickname "La Ciudad entre la Niebla", or The City above the Clouds. Along the way you are fully supported by expert professional guides, with all equipment supplied to ensure you have a comfortable camping experience.

You will also have the support of local porters on the Trail. We adhere to responsible porter policies, paying over the legal wage and also pay their Inca Trail fee in addition to their wages. Porters are insured by us and we provide them with appropriate clothing and equipment.

We can also organise some additional activities in Lima that tie in with local culture and natural heritage, so do chat with us about any other options that you might be interested in. This is a tailor made itinerary, which means not only can you go at your own pace but you can also add in as many adventures as you like.

Hello. If you'd like to chat about this holiday or need help finding one we're very happy to help. Rosy & team.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Inca Trail & Peru holiday, tailor made

It is incredibly important to us to sustain the environment on the trips that we do to these countries. We work with Ecoan, Gren Our Planet and the communities of Lares and Ollantaytambo to replant essential native trees. Since 2007 we have planted over 310,000 native trees. By 2020 we want to reach one million trees.
We encourage people to travel overland where possible (a fantastic experience in itself in South America for the views and sense of space you get).
We urge clients to focus their trip on a few places rather than trying to connect many destinations by flights.
Some of our suppliers have foundations or projects that benefit from the hotel/cruise boat or lodge that they operate and we prefer to use these where possible. We explain this to our clients and indeed it can be used as a big selling point throughout the trip planning process.

We look after our porters well. We pay porters more than the wage stipulated by the authorities. We pay the porter’s Inca Trail fee and do not take it out of their wages. They are fully insured and provided with clothing and equipment.
We actively support community based projects. For every Peru booking we will donate £10 to the Living Heart Foundation who have several excellent projects that reach out to the remote Andean regions where children often have poor nutrition and education. They have a café in the town of Ollantaytambo which is a stopping off point for Machu Picchu. We encourage our clients to go there for a coffee or to buy some of the locally produced textiles that this region is famous for.

When creating our tailormade trips we always try to feature hotels or lodges that have a social or environmental project attached to them. For example Hotel Sol y Luna in Peru has its own foundation which helps children in the local area by giving them a chance of an “education, good health, happiness and a brighter future”.

We also work with a small company who take clients off the beaten track in Lima called Pax on Board. Clients can visit a fishing village with a local guide and learn about how important this industry is to the local economy. They eat lunch in a local restaurant. This is always done on a private basis and so usually our clients are the only tourists there.
