Description of Galapagos Islands cruise

This Galapagos small ship cruise is perfect for both adults and families. This family run cruise operator has won awards for their sustainable travel policies. Their 3 boats: Eric, Flamingo & Letty hold 20 passengers and deliver a most memorable experience of the unique Galapagos Islands.

Highlights of this small ship cruise include the islands of San Cristobal, Isabella and Santa Cruz, but also very tranquil ones such as Ferdinandina. You will get plenty of time to be in the water, swimming and snorkelling alongside seals or penguins or kayaking at Tagus Cove and Darwin Bay.

One of the most exciting aspects of the Galapagos Islands is spotting their endemic tortoises in the Highlands as well as colourful and unforgettable land and marine iguanas. You may also be lucky enough to sight whales and dolphins from your boat too. The Galapagos just keep giving.

Responsible tourism: Galapagos Islands cruise

The Galapagos islands are a very fragile and important environment. We particularly like to work with this cruise operator because they go over and above the strict laws that govern cruise operators in the Galapagos. Our organisation has maintained the ecological certification SmartVoyager since 2000 and was the first Galapagos cruise ship company to offset carbon emissions and to install alternative energy sources in the form of solar panels. They offset their operations through "Native Energy Travel Offsets".

On board, clients are given refillable water bottles that you can use on board to avoid using unnecessary plastic and food is locally sourced, wherever possible.

We donate 10 for every Galapagos booking to the Galapagos conservation trust. We also send details of the charity to our clients so that they can learn more about the careful work they do and its importance. Clients can also then make their own donation in addition to ours.

All of the guides and crew on the ship are originally from the Galapagos islands. Most of the guides grew up on the islands and so have unrivalled knowledge which is backed up by the naturalist qualifications that they are require to have to work as a guide.

The itinerary includes a visit to the highlands and El Chato farm. This is a locally run and owned initiative where visitors can see giant tortoises in the wild. The business benefits from the entrance fees and drinks that visitors can buy.

The itinerary includes some time in the town of Puerto Ayora and we encourage clients to spend some money in restaurants, cafes and gift shops. These are all locally owned and while much of the money that tourists bring to the Galapagos go to the owners of the ships, we like to encourage spend in the local land based businesses so that they can benefit as well.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

It was really exciting to be so close to nature, where animals are in their natural setting and not trapped in a zoo which alters their behaviour. The tour guide and crew were wonderful and excelled at what they do.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

I advise other travelers to really consult an agent to find out which cruise is the most suitable for them. The information on the Internet is overwhelming and there are so many different choices of cruise which suits different kind of travellers.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Absolutely. The practice on the yacht made me feel the operator really cared about the environment.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

Excellently. 10/10
