Description of USA short tour, LA to Vegas

Don’t blame us if you find yourself booking a full-on roadtrip around the US after this fun-packed taster tour, taking you around iconic cities Los Angeles and Las Vegas, via the incredible Grand Canyon.

You’ll get the trip underway in Los Angeles, the ‘City of Angels’, with a tour of Hollywood highlights that are immediately recognisable - the Hollywood sign, Hollywood Boulevard, Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills and much more besides. Just make sure your camera is fully charged.

Leaving LA, you’ll head out across the atmospheric Mojave Desert, pausing to take in the amazing red rock scenery around the Colorado River. You’ll be spending the night on the shore of beautiful Lake Havasu, and if you feel the temptation to take a refreshing dip, then dive right in.

Travel across arid desert landscapes to one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World: the Grand Canyon. 277 miles long, 18 miles wide and over a mile deep, it’s a spectacular sight. You’ll have plenty of time to explore the South Rim using the public bus system to find your perfect sunset spot. You could even fit in a helicopter flight over the canyon for a closer look from a spectacular angle.

Last stop on this unforgettable tour is ‘Sin City’ itself, Las Vegas. You’ll travel along the famous Route 66 before enjoying an illuminating bus tour of the Sunset Strip, stopping off for the obligatory photo at the Las Vegas sign. Before returning to LA, you’ll be able to see Vegas your way, whether that be hitting the tables, taking in a show or browsing the rails at hundreds of high-end boutiques.

Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

We are committed to offering low impact tours that benefit both the places and communities we visit as well as our travellers. It is important for us all to be aware of the delicate balance that exists in the variety of natural wonders you will visit. The Grand Canyon National Park should and must be treated with respect.

We have created a 'Travellers' Code of Conduct' to help prepare and inform our groups of the various positive or negative effects they could have on a destination. The code includes tips on everything from handling wildlife encounters to how you can help to conserve precious natural resources. Our tour leaders will explain this code of conduct during the first night’s orientation talk and encourage you to follow it throughout the tour.

This code includes following the ‘Leave No Trace’ ethic, this is an international campaign that is designed to help us minimise the impact on the National Parks and other wilderness areas that we visit. Some key guidelines we follow include keeping to existing trails, staying in official campgrounds and disposing of all waste responsibly and recycling whatever we can.

We are proud supporters of the American Hiking Society, which champions conservation issues in the United States and represents millions of hikers committed to preserving America’s vast network of hiking trails and their surrounding ecosystems.

On this tour we feel it is important to protect the fragile desert environment. The desert’s natural way to avoid sand erosion is by creating cryptobiotic soil which creates a living crust on the desert floor. This special soil helps the desert to protect itself from wind and rain erosion and promotes plant growth. All our tour leaders encourage our travellers to stick to the path to avoid damaging this special soil which can be hard to see.

On this tour we use professionally trained Grand Canyon guides to lead this tour. This helps ensure that professional training is always available as a career in America. They are also au fait with the correct safety standards required when hiking inside the Grand Canyon. We utilise the designated campgrounds and ensure all rubbish used on this trip is taken out leaving only footprints. Outside of a return transfer from North Scottsdale, this trip is conducted on foot by man/women power only.

All customers who book this trip through Grand American Adventures will buy a limited group permit. This helps reduce the overall numbers on the trail as well as keeping the trail standard in decent condition.
