Responsible tourism: South Africa luxury holiday

Environment

We work with a local partner in South Africa who is committed to doing their bit to protect their environment by recycling on a daily basis. They also support initiatives such as the Greenpop project in planting trees for a greener future.

Our local partners share the same values as us in terms of using as little energy in the office as possible and as well as recycling. We use recycled paper and are conscious of our use of electricity in the offices, making sure that lights and computers are switched off when not in use or necessary.

Our commitment towards flora and fauna in South Africa is at the forefront of our minds. We work with locally run guest houses and lodges in South Africa who support their environment. For example, on this trip you'll stay in a private lodge in the Eastern Cape who are actively involved in the fight to protect endangered rhinos from poaching.

Community

Supporting local communities in country is important to us and working with local partners who support local upliftment projects is a big part of that. Our partners in South Africa work with numerous projects and communities throughout the country. One such project collects used, dried tea bags from our partners and other firms in the area to then be used in functional art by the local community. This not only aids in protecting the environment but also helps provide an income for local families through the sale of items like bags, coasters, table mats and more, each with uniquely decorated tea bags.

Throughout our trips we choose to support local guides or driver guides, so you can take advantage of their local knowledge of the areas visited. This provides our customers with an authentic experience and helps put money directly into the pockets of local people. We also encourage our customers to eat as small local restaurants and explore local markets rather than the big shopping malls that can dominate in South Africa.

Our local project in South Africa, which we encourage all our customers to support too, provides a refuge for abused women and children in the townships of Knysna. The project also provides a soup kitchen to the community as well as school tuition to many children in the community to go to primary school.
