Description of South East Asia grand tour, 71 days

This incredible Southeast Asian odyssey leaves nothing to the imagination in terms of classic locations and undiscovered treats.

Joining a small guided group is one of the best ways to really get the best out of the region with cultural tours and lots of included activities, adding to the excitement of travelling by road, rail, river and air.

Arriving in Thailandís glittering capital city, Bangkok, allows you to hit the ground running and yet itís a relatively off the beaten track destination, Myanmar, that can often steal the show. Of course, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia provide an array of incredible cultural and natural contrasts for any introduction to Southeast Asia. However, don't try to ignore the all too recent history of the region. We recommend doing some research first to ensure you get the whole picture. Oh yes, Angkor Wat, nothing can prepare you for Cambodia's ancient Khmer capital.

The beaches of Phuket, in southern Thailand, need little or no introduction and as this 71 day grand tour also traces the rest of the Malay Peninsula, including Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, you really will be treated to an all-encompassing experience that could well be the start of many more travels to follow.

Hello. If you'd like to chat about this holiday or need help finding one we're very happy to help. Rosy & team.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: South East Asia grand tour, 71 days

Travelling on local public buses, sleeper trains, trains, boats and minibuses, this tour gives you plenty of opportunities to get to know the local people of Myanmar and South East Asia while using public transport. We use a combination of trains and local buses to reduce our carbon footprint. This also minimises our impact on the local environment and provides income to local businesses.

In Battambang we even have the chance to ride the Bamboo Train, a unique way seeing the paddy fields along the way whilst reducing our carbon footprint.

We visit the Elephant Conservation Centre in Kalaw. This is a community protects the wildlife and the traditions of the people living in the area. Our fees here will go back to the project and help protect Myanmarís endangered elephants.

We visit a number of destinations on this expansive tour that give a true insight into Myanmar and South East Asia and educate passengers on the history and culture of these destinations. For instance in Myanmar we visit the States where passengers have the chance to get off the beaten track and discover villages which hold the deep-rooted traditions. We also go to the COPE centre in Vientiane, Laos and can learn about the effect UXO from the Vietnam had on the country with the chance to donate if passengers want to.

All our travellers are encouraged to learn a few words and phrases of the language and interact with the locals as much as possible to enhance their social experiences on tour. In addition to the phrase books which are available for purchase, our tour leaders are able to teach you useful words and phrases on the road. Your tour leader will brief you on etiquette such as the clothing required and behaviour expected by visitors to temples and other sacred places.

There are different guidelines for different cultures, so please bear that in mind so that as we travel we can avoid offense wherever possible. We will also visit many local shopping districts and markets along the way, giving you plenty of opportunity to support local merchants. We would encourage you to purchase traditional handicrafts from local artisans rather than mass produced goods from chain stores, as you will learn more about the skill involved in the production, while also support the craft
