Responsible tourism: Family activity and safari holiday, Kenya

This is a low-impact safari designed to accommodate small groups, not a seat-in-bus tour. You will visit protected areas such as the Aberdares National Park, Borana Conservancy, and Loita Hills; areas removed from the main tourist trail and which work to protect the natural environment and the communities dependent on it. Such parks and concessions are largely supported by the revenues generated by tourism, meaning your visit will play a small but real role in helping to sustain these areas.

Throughout your tour, you will stay in a mix of comfortable lodges and small-scale safari camps, which seek to limit their impact on the environment. During the cycling portion of your tour, you will stay in our own mobile campsites – your guides will ensure that all waste is collected and that the protected areas you camp in are preserved (you might like to help with the setting up and breaking of camp).

While in the Loita Hills and Masai Mara you will stay in comfortable bush camps that operate on eco-friendly principles, sourcing produce locally and relying on solar power.

Carbon offsetting – We provide a monthly donation to the Carbon Neutral fund to partially offset the emissions generated by our business.

During your itinerary you will visit a remote Maasai community at Loita Hills. The funds generated from your visit to Loita Hills directly support the local Maasai, who own, manage and live from the land. In Loita, you'll have the chance to learn about the Maasai lifestyle, both its traditional, nomadic aspects, and Maasai life as it is lived today. You’ll visit a settled Maasai community, and will also have the chance to learn about a number of community projects aiming to provide clean water provision and schooling to the area.

We employ local guides on your tour – we do so to support the local communities you visit, but also because we know that local guides make the best guides, with a depth of knowledge on the regions visited. In Loita Hills, you will be led by local Maasai, who will introduce you to their way of life.

You stay in locally-owned camps/lodges in the Mt Kenya foothills and Loita Hills, helping to channel funds to the communities that host you.
