Responsible tourism: Tour de France 2017 Alps race viewing tour

Environment

We LOVE to return to French Alps every year! In summer this place is one of the best to be either cycling or just having fun and relaxing on the vacation. But be careful with the up and booming hotel business in the relatively untouched lands and plains. We prefer to stay in more classic, older buildings that have seen a renovation just from the inside. Isn’t it nice to look out of the window and have that historic breath around you? Historic guesthouses usually have the nicest owners. We love the fact that many things are actually self made, or bought locally. Maybe, some of our guests will get the inspiration from the stunning craftsmanship that the old French architecture encompasses.

If everyone would go up to watch the Tour de France in the mountains with their car, it would become suffocating! We encourage everyone to watch the race as it should be seen – on your bike or to take some of the dedicated bus services. In the higher altitudes air is much more tenuous and a lot of cars could make the situation with melting snow on the peaks even worse!

Community

Traveling with a sports kit is a real hassle, especially with something as clumsy to transport as a bicycle. We encourage our guests and everyone else to invest in a rental bicycle from locals. Rental bikes are a good way to have more space in our support van and we consider it as a help to local businesses. If we find a good and kind rental in the tour area we stick with it for next tours and next years, because we equally value a good deal and a good relationship with local community.

Even though Tour de France is a big event with a beautiful finish line crossing in the Champs Elysees, we provide a tour that goes through more rural part of France. It is important that not only our guests see the racing parts where the best riders in the world battle on the steep climbs, but we want to show them everything this French countryside can offer. A nice cheese and meat cuts from local farmers are a must if we are near and we never forget to thank for a fair deal and spread a word around about the amazing place!
