1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

The first planned walk.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

The instructions provided by the company were little more than a few
points from a website. They were not detailed in any way and did not give accurate timings for meal stops. The cost of the trip was expensive for what was provided.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

We chose to use public transport so this was environmentally supportive. We ate in local restaurants so helped the local economy .

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

We enjoyed the holiday but did not feel the use of the agent was good value for money.

It was a great short break. Poprad Airport was very easy and local, accommodation was in a good location.

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

Planet

Self-guided adventures are small groups by their very nature (it’ll only be you and a few others at most). This is better for the environment and means you get to see more because you can get off-the-beaten track.

We use public transport where we can – on this trip you will use trams, cable cars, trains and small buses. This minimises the impact on the environment and saves travellers money. This money can then be spent in other local places, such as a traditional restaurant, thus benefitting the local economy even more. Our walking guides will give advice on how to travel responsibly in order not to do any damage to the local environment.

During the trip, we will visit the Tatra National Park (TANAP). Their undertaking is to protect the park’s nature, flora and fauna, and by being here, we are helping in this mission. We will make sure we adhere to the rules of the park, walk only on trails, and leave wildlife and plants undisturbed.

People

Our company ethos is to organise tours for small groups and individuals so people can experience adventure responsibly. As a local, family-run business, we have built-up fantastic relationships with communities throughout Slovakia, and can provide the opportunity to connect with, and experience, local customs, culture and way of life first-hand.

During this tour, we will only use local services and, throughout the trip, we will stay in locally-owned accommodation, which supports small Slovakian businesses. We also recommend eating in local restaurants and mountain huts, so you can sample delicious local cuisine – we will make recommendations in your self-guided booklet so you know the best ones to choose.

On this holiday, we’ve also included a trek to many different mountain huts, including the oldest hut in the Tatra Mountains, Rainerova. Mountain huts have been part of the fabric of the Tatras’ for years; they’re traditional, welcoming and often have a historic story to tell. By visiting, we help to preserve their heritage for future generations.
