Description of Sri Lanka wildlife tour, 10 days

This 10 day Sri Lanka wildlife tour takes you around the island where Indian Ocean idylls and wildlife watching opportunities conjure up myriad ways to fall head over heels in love with Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is criss-crossed in tracks and trails which makes a wildlife tour all the more enjoyable with chances to meet local conservationists for those involved with elephant rehab projects is of real benefit for anyone interested in preserving the natural world.

The chance to spot leopards in Yala National Park or dolphins and blue whales offshore from Fort Galle is incredibly exciting and helps to turn this Sri Lanka wildlife tour into an incredibly memorable experience.

Not only does this Sri Lanka wildlife tour take in some of the island’s most impressive scenery and animal-abundant national parks, it also helps to support and promote humanitarian, social and environmental initiatives run by the Jetwing Eternal Earth Program (JEEP).

In fact, for every person participating in this tour, $200 AUD will be donated to JEEP to help fund educational and conservation projects, including the Loris Conservation Project. Please get in touch if you'd like to know more.

Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

As a company we are committed to running our tours in a responsible manner as highlighted below:

Group size: we only travel with small groups. Our tours have a maximum of 16 in any one group, to help minimise the impact on the environments that we travel through.

Water: we advise our travellers to bring their own BPA free water bottles, as we provide a water drum at each hotel so bottles can be refilled before touring commences each day.

Sustainable stays: we chose eco-friendly hotels such as The Rainforest Eco Lodge, which was the first hotel in Sri Lanka to be awarded the LEEDS Platinum certificate for it’s special ‘green’ design.

Environmental initiatives: we include visits to create awareness about local environmental initiatives such as Udawalawe’s Elephant Transit Home. Their main objective is rehabilitating orphaned elephant calves for release back into the wild.

In addition, we also incorporate a $200 donation into the overall travel costs which supports a local environmental initiative. The donation component for this trip goes towards funding the Loris Conservation Project and Centre in Vil Uyana.

To make sure our Community Immersion Tours benefit the local economy and community as much as possible we:

- Establish good long-term relationships with locally owned suppliers and service providers.
- Pay fair prices for services and products.
- work with locally run not-for-profits or organisations that support community and/or environmental initiatives
- Recommend local, sustainable and ethical products and services to our travellers.
- Include locally owned restaurants and accommodation in our tours
- Employ local tour guides, drivers, porters and chefs

To respect and support local cultures we:
- Provide information to Tour Manager and travellers on appropriate and responsible behaviour and cultural etiquette
- Support local and cultural events in the area
- Work with our partners to help strengthen community initiatives.

Beyond this, we also support Jetwings initiative JEEP that undertakes a variety of community and nature-based projects and sustainability initiatives. Project work is done under four different sectors: Community Outreach Initiatives, Sustainability, Eco Projects and Humanitarian Programmes.
