Description of Bora Bora holiday and LA stopover

From southern California to the South Pacific, this 16 day trip is one of exciting extremes – a Bora Bora holiday with an LA stopover. Make your way to the beautiful island of Bora Bora via vast and vibrant Los Angeles. Spend three nights in the city, visiting the film studios, strolling on Venice Beach Boardwalk, taking in an exhibition at one of the many galleries and museums, shopping in Beverly Hills and Malibu and enjoying the city’s excellent bars and restaurants. You’ll stay in the Palihouse Santa Monica, which has been open since 1927. It’s a boutique hotel in a quiet neighbourhood with Moorish-Mediterranean architecture, close to Santa Monica’s beach, promenade and farmer’s market.

From LA, fly to French Polynesia for a week’s stay at Le Maitai Bora Bora, a beautiful boutique resort overlooking a pristine white sand beach and the Bora Bora lagoon. This is a friendly, laid-back resort, which never feels crowded, with thatched cottages tucked in amongst tropical gardens, framed by mountain peaks rising in the distance. There are lots of watersports to try, or just relax and enjoy the tropical views and warm seas.

Responsible tourism: Bora Bora holiday and LA stopover

Environment

Le Maitai Polynesia – Bora Bora is EarthCheck Gold certified. It also participates in the international Reef Check program and has a “Green Team,” a group of hotel staff members, including the in-house marine biologist/veterinarian, brainstorming ideas to conserve and protect the environment.
French Polynesia is an environment rich in fauna, flora and culture that Maitai Hotels desire to preserve at all costs in order to keep their little corner of paradise intact. To do so, the Maitai Hotels, were the were the first to engage in the EarthCheck environmental and social control system.

EarthCheck is the environmental and social benchmarking system used most widely in the Travel and Tourism industry. More than 1,300 organizations in 70 countries have chosen the EarthCheck program to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their environmental footprint.

The hotel works daily to reduce the consumption of water & electricity but also waste. In addition, many environmental activities are regularly conducted to educate and train staff about the EarthCheck program, sustainable development, and eco-sustainability. Special attention is given to the employment and empowerment of local people, and all the products and services involved in local environmental support.
Each year, an environmental audit is performed to measure the environmental impact of these proudly certified properties.

Community

Responsible Travel doesn't mean having to compromise on the enjoyment of your trip or the quality of your accommodation. We feel strongly that we should directly benefit the communities we visit whenever possible through sustainable travel, environmental protection and social projects, without sacrificing comfort or character.
We are firmly committed to the principles of ethical travel. Our comprehensive Responsible Practices policy summarises our commitments and actions.
Although the very basis of our ground operations lends itself to the ethos of responsible tourism, this policy re-iterates our commitment to:
• Use locally owned hotels
• Use locally owned ground agents
• Use local guides and drivers
• Promote community tourism projects from homestays to craft shops
• Support charities that work within the destinations that we travel to
• Support carbon reduction projects through Friends of Conservation.
Whilst we recognise that a vital element of any holiday is relaxation, we do try to encourage our clients to be aware of the impact they have on their destinations. For each booking, we provide notes on cultural sensitivities and our local guides brief our clients upon their arrival. We hope this will help to ensure the sustainability of our destinations and improve the quality of our clients' overall experience.
Ethical considerations are also part of our research and development process and we encourage feedback on our practices. Clients are asked to comment and make suggestions on our responsible practices when completing their post-trip questionnaire. In addition to this, as well as visiting destination-based initiatives whilst on their educational trips, our country specialists are encouraged to help continually improve our responsible travel initiatives.
