Description of Kenya and Tanzania classic tailor made holiday

This ten day tailor made tour of two of East Africa’s classic countries – Kenya and Tanzania – takes place in some of the region’s best loved national parks and game reserves.

From ornithological wonders and protected rhinos in Nakuru National Park to top predators, zebra, antelope and wildebeest in the Masai Mara and Serengeti, this tour is packed with classic encounters to ensure your East African experience is as authentic as it will be exciting.

Arriving for the wildebeest migration is an absolute thrill to behold however, step foot in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater and you’ll be presented with an incredible collection of wildlife thriving in the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera, all year round.

Of course, Lake Manyara is no slough when it comes to animal action with the lakes, woodlands and steep slopes of the Rift Valley offering all manner of natural environments from where tree climbing lions and huge herds of elephants are free to roam in protected park perimeters.

Overland safari vehicles transport travellers between small luxury tented camps and traditional safari lodges whilst a flight over the Masai Mara and Serengeti savannah plains helps you to keep track of things from high up above as well as down on the ground.

1 Reviews of Kenya and Tanzania classic tailor made holiday

5 out of 5 stars

Reviewed on 15 Nov 2019 by

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Holiday was in Tanzania only - we were able to see the migration passing through the area where we were staying in the Serengeti which was amazing. We also saw huge numbers of big cats (which was a reason for planning this holiday).

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Do your research on what you want to see and give the agent an outline and then work out the detail together.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

To some extent - local people were learning skills in the hospitality industry, there was greater awareness of the environmental impact of plastic and
polythene and of conservation.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

As a great success

Responsible Travel

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we've screened this (and every) holiday so that you can travel knowing it will help support the places and people that you visit, and the planet. Read how below.

All our tents in Kenya are thatched using sustainably harvested local grass and using traditional methods and local workers.

One camp runs its own tree-nursery, supplying over 30,000 seedlings to the local community. They work with local schools and other bodies to encourage tree-planting within the area, they also arrange tree-planting activities amongst their own staff and guests.

In terms of its own ecological ‘foot' print, the camp abides by a code of responsible practice in relation to: energy conservation (inverter systems have recently been installed so as to reduce the camp's use of diesel-fuelled generators), waste recycling (glass, plastics, ‘wet waste' and the distribution of food-waste to local pig-farmers), sewage disposal, air emissions, non-CFC use, pesticide-use, noise reduction and visual pollution. Wherever possible, local produce is featured on the menus.

In Tanzania one of our camps works in cooperation with SENAPA (Serengeti National Parks Authority) regarding a re-afforestation tree-planting programme.

They also work in cooperation with SENAPA in maintaining and up-grading the roads in the park so as to keep the erosive practice of ‘off-road' driving to a minimum.

The guides used on these itineraries have many years' experience at guiding in this region, so advise guests on wildlife, keeping a good distance from the animals and also the impact on the park from their visit.

The Kenyan camp offers subsidized medical care to the local community - particularly in relation to maternal care and child-immunization; also in relation to HIV/AIDS sensitization.

They operate an out-reach programme to the orphanages of the area which allows for visits from our staff, the provision of funds, the hosting of seasonal events and the provision of clothing and foodstuffs.

The camp works closely with the local Ereri Multi-Cultural Community Manyatta, in the promotion of cultural dance, music, traditional practices and in the promotion of local handicrafts.

They create both temporary and permanent jobs for the local community. They also offer training and work-exposure programmes for school leavers.

They actively encourage interface between our guests and the local villages - hosting tours and promoting the sale of handicraft items.
They showcase cultural dance, costume, singing and cultural craft as part of our corporate undertaking to support and sustain the cultural heritage of our nation.

They work with a number of local schools, both by providing educational materials and by hosting environmental training sessions for the pupils.

In order to promote the overall health of their workforce, the accommodation proivder has also established the Employee Wellness Programme, which aims to address the holistic health needs of not only their staff, but also of the communities that surround their camps and lodges. In essence, the programme is devoted to reducing the incidence of accident and illness in the workplace, promoting healthy lifestyles, maximizing potential and promoting optimum quality of life.
