Description of Rock climbing holiday in Andalucia

This small group rock climbing holiday takes you to Andalucia, to test out your climbing skills in the mountainous landscape of the Sierra Morena. The adventure begins in Cordoba, where you’ll explore cobbled streets and visit palaces and gardens, as well as take in the impressive Cordoba mosque. Next, it’s on to Espiel, one of Andalucia’s famous white villages, and the starting point for your rock climbing adventures.

You’ll head into the mountains with a group of guides, all of whom know the area well. They have experience working with absolute beginners as well experienced climbers, so there’s no need to worry if it’s your first climb. You’ll spend two nights here, scaling rocks by day and sleeping on the site of an old train station by night. A countryside BBQ on day four marks the end of the trip, after which you’ll be whisked off to your hotel in Malaga for tapas and a night out of before heading home the following day.

Highlights:
- Explore the cobbled streets of Cordoba, where Christians, Muslims and Jews lived together for centuries.
- Sleep in an old train station on the shores of a lake and enjoy delicious homemade Andalusian food.
- Brush up on your rock climbing, or learn how to climb, on the cliffs of the Sierra Morena.
- Visit the narrow alleys of hilly Espiel, one of Andalucia’s famous white villages.
- Spend a night next to the beach in Malaga and try the local tapas.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Rock climbing holiday in Andalucia

Environment

As with other climbing tours, we focus especially in all what is there apart from the actual rock climbing, the landscapes, the rural life and the environment. As being aware on how invasive can be the activity of rock climbing we take especial care in guiding and educating travellers on being conscious of this, especially when it comes to waste. We dedicate usually some time after our rock climbing sessions at going through the area and collect all types of waste, our own or whatever, that we find. This way we try not only to reduce our impact but bring a little contribution to the maintenance and cleanness of the area.

It's worth mentioning in this tour that our accommodation is in a restored, previously abandoned, train station. The project for this was very interesting and practical for the area as not only improved a building that was in ruins but it also brought a community of outdoors people to the area.

Community

Our main partner in this tour is a family who own an old restored train station which is the main accommodation in the natural park. This family is fully dedicated to develop an area, that is not known outside the region, through the development of all kind of outdoors activities, not only in the rocks and mountains but also in the nearby lake. They started capturing the attention of the other localities in the area but now attracting also travellers from the rest of the country.

Our choice of this area, the village of Espiel and the natural park around it, in opposition with other more popular climbing destinations in South Spain, like El Chorro, in Malaga, is mostly due to this commitment with an incredibly beautiful region with lot of potential, especially for rock climbing, but totally unknown outside the region. We contribute slowly to make this area popular among the climbers community, helping this way to bring a sustainable source of income to the region.
