Thereís something for everyone on this adventure holiday in Peru, which travels off the beaten track to explore Peruís lesser known archaeological wonders, so far untroubled by mass tourism. You wonít miss out on Peruís colonial architecture, either, with time in the lovely colonial cities of Trujillo and Catamarca, too.

This tour doesnít focus solely on Peruís history, it looks at present day life in the country, too Ė its organic coffee and cacao trade and its artisanal handicrafts. You will also be able to visit some of the inspiring environmental and social projects working to protect Peruís threatened environment and supporting various disadvantaged groups.

Respectful encounters with local people are at the heart of this tour, and youíll have lots of opportunities to chat with local people who you meet on homestays or while making a traditional Ďcaballitosí boat on the beach at Huanchaco.

Accommodation is mid-range and family-owned and there are two homestays included in this 10 day holiday, too. Travel is by private transport and one overnight bus (between Cajamarca and Leymebamba). A bilingual tour leader will accompany you throughout, and youíll also be joined by professional local guides at specific sites, who have specialist knowledge. You wonít have to worry about logistics, so you can relax and get the most from this holiday. This way you can just relax and enjoy the trip since you wonít have to worry about logistics.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Adventure holiday in Peru, off the beaten track

Environment

We'll visit various conservation areas that are known for their biodiversity. By visiting we help protect these unique ecosystems and the guide will focus on raising awareness of the importance of preserving the local fauna and flora. By visiting this area, locals become aware of the potential benefits (income from responsible tourism) for them to preserve their ecosystem and environment.

The food that is served throughout the tour is locally sourced, fresh food and it therefore does not generate much waste or needs transport. The little waste that is generated is taken to the city to be recycled.

The accommodation in the countryside (the homestay) are built in the local style and with local materials. Your hosts are locals of the area and they are very aware of their own environment. They love to share their local knowledge and they are very careful to preserve their natural surroundings.

Visitors are strongly encouraged to follow guidelines that are sent to them before departure to make sure they don't leave a negative environmental footprint (for instance bring your own reusable water bottle) and they are given some more tips and instructions upon arrival.

Community

All our tours respect and promote the host communitiesí culture. Activities on all our tours focus on the traditions and local culture and reality of the visited communities and have an additional educational function. For instance, visitors can participate in workshops on traditional architecture or agriculture, handicrafts, local food and cooking habits, etc. The income that our and similar tours generate, encourages communities to conserve these traditions.

We aim to provide an authentic experience for tourists and a culturally sensitive, respectful encounter between tourists and hosts. Nothing is put into scene and people are not asked to pretend or act differently than they normally do. Tourists are informed about the particular culture and customs in the community they will visit before they arrive and they will be made aware of any rules of behavior they should respect.

This tour includes visits to various environmental and social projects, which do not only aim to raise awareness but also benefit the organisations visited.
