Budapest to Bucharest small group holiday

Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

Transport: This tour uses a local train to get from Budapest to Eger, which is not only a great way to travel but also keeps carbon emissions lower.

Environment

Responsible Travel Policy: As a global tour operator, we understand our part in protecting the countries and environments that we visit. We have an in depth responsible travel policy on our website which is available for customers prior to travelling, with advice on how they can protect the environments we travel through. On this trip we recommend that travellers bring a cloth bag for shopping, and reusable water bottle to avoid purchasing single-use plastic.

Accommodation: Typically, we use small hotels and locally owned guest houses throughout our tours. With our small group size, we are able to support guest houses who do not have the space for large international groups. On this tour, our accommodation in Eger, Baia Mare, Sighisoara and Brasov are all small, local guesthouses with a maximum of 30 to 40 rooms. All accommodation on this tour is centrally located, or located within walking distance of the major attractions. Tour leaders conduct a walking orientation of each location, so that travellers can find their bearings. Walking is without a doubt the best way to explore a destination where possible - nothing keeps your carbon footprint low like your own two feet.

Group Size: The maximum group size on this trip is 19 people, with a typical range of 8 - 14 passengers. By limiting our group size in Europe we avoid having a huge impact on the places that we visit and are able to support smaller establishments that don’t have the infrastructure for large groups.

UNESCO Sites: This tour visits three UNESCO Sites - the Danube and Castle complex of Budapest, the wooden churches of Maramures and the historic centre of Sighisoara. Entrance fees in these sites goes towards their preservation for generations to come.

Transport: In Romania, we work closely with a local transport operator who provide private vehicles for our Maramures day trip and visits to other areas of Romania. This is the best way to reach rural places that are not well served by public transport, and to make stops at areas of interest and restaurants. Not only does this support local drivers and employment, having the ability to make stops at areas off the local transport infrastructure spreads traveller spending further than the main tourist cities. Since our groups are kept to a maximum of 19 people, but are normally much lower, large coaches are never required or used.

Community

This 9 day trip puts travellers in close contact with the local communities that we visit and aims to provide a thorough understanding of local life. One way in which we do this is by taking customers to Eger where they can experience the “Valley of the Beautiful Women”, a collection of wine cellars where local wine producers sell some of the best wine in Hungary. Customers have the chance to talk with them, enjoy wine tastings and learn about the culture.

The included Maramures day tour includes visits to local villages to observe century-old traditions and interact with local people. On top of this, we employ a local guide for this excursion to not only provide an authentic experience but also to support local work.

Travelling with respect: One of our fundamental values is travelling with respect and opening peoples eyes to the wonderful diversity of cultures across the world. When travelling, things might not work the way they do back home. We ensure that this topic is covered at the start of the tour so that travellers are aware of what to expect and can do the best they can to respect the differences they come across. Our website has been designed to offer specialist tips, expert information and guides to provide our travellers information before they travel that will ensure they get the most from their tour. We also encourage travellers to learn a few words of the local language.

Meals: Breakfasts are included on this tour but all other meals are at the travellers own accord. Our tour leaders are experts in the areas we visit and will always point out local establishments where travellers can enjoy authentic food. Eating local produce is the best way to ensure you are not contributing too much to carbon emissions.
