Dubrovnik to Budapest holiday, 15 days
Highlights
Croatia: Dubrovnik | Hvar Island | Split | Plitvice National Park | Zagreb Bosnia and Herzegovina: Sarajevo | Mostar Slovenia: Lake Bled | Ljubljana Hungary: BudapestDescription of Dubrovnik to Budapest holiday, 15 days
This Dubrovnik to Budapest holiday is a wonderful two week mix of Eastern Europe, its diverse landscapes, cities and ever fascinating culture. Travelling by public transport throughout, in a small escorted group, our journey starts in Dubrovnik, the UNESCO walled city perched on the Adriatic coast, known as the Pearl of the Adriatic and ends in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. This trip is packed with pearls, however, and Croatia has its fair share, including the stunning island of Hvar, the ancient city of Split and then the underrated capital itself, Zagreb. As well as Plitvice National Park which, with its sixteen freshwater lakes and ninety waterfalls is like a packed jewellery box all on its own.
We take a worthwhile diversion from our time in Croatia to explore neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina where the medieval town of Mostar and its capital Sarajevo are both fascinating places to visit in this small country with a vast history.
Heading north, Slovenia is a stunning country, dominated by natural greats such as the Julian Alps and Lake Bled, as well as a capital city of Ljubljana which can confidently compete for poll position as one of Europe's prettiest. Although Budapest, the capital of Hungary where you finish your tour, may want to argue, with its great Baroque and gothic architecture, iconic Danube River, wide boulevards and famous urban chic.

Small group adventure holiday
Whether you are travelling alone or with friends/family its good value, and a great way to meet new people! While itineraries are pre-planned there is plenty of free time to explore at your own pace. This trip will appeal to travellers of all ages who enjoy meeting new people as well as seeing new places.Responsible tourism
As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

During this tour we have many opportunities to visit UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the beautiful Plitvice Lakes National Park, where our entrance fees help maintain and restore these precious attractions. Pathways through the park prevent damage to the precious ecosystem and visitors are told to dispose of any waste responsibly both during the pre-departure meeting and on tour documentation.
The Impacts of this Trip
All our travellers are encouraged to learn a few words and phrases of the local languages and interact with the locals as much as possible to enhance their social experiences on tour. In addition to the phrase books which are available for purchase, our tour leaders are able to teach you useful words and phrases on the road. Be courageous enough to test out your language skills on public transport and in restaurants - start a friendly conversation and you’ll learn more about the culture from the people than you could from any travel guide!
While we use small, locally owned hotels throughout this tour, in Hvar we use small independent guesthouses, ran by the local community members. By doing this we are putting money back into local businesses instead of chain hotels.
Your tour leader will brief you on etiquette such as the clothing required and behaviour expected by visitors to churches, cathedrals and other sacred places. There are different guidelines for different cultures, so please bear that in mind so that as we travel we can avoid offense wherever possible.
Your tour leader will introduce you to many local restaurants and bars throughout the tour, helping you discover the authentic local cuisine. Be brave and try something traditional or something you’ve never heard of before rather than sticking to the dishes you’ve had in your home country - it’s all part of exploring a new culture.
Local guides will also lend their expertise to the journey, explaining the historical background and cultural significance of the places we visit. They will help you to appreciate the importance of respecting the environment of these heritage sites and understand the conservation efforts undertaken at various parks. The Diocletian’s Palace tour for example is family run by a mother and her daughter who have great knowledge on the site
