Responsible tourism: Jordan and Israel tour, tailor made

Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world and we want people who book trips through our website to ensure they respect local laws, traditions and the people and wildlife they encounter. As a leading travel company we realize we have a responsibility to promote responsible tourism and we strongly believe in taking nothing but pictures and leaving nothing but footprints. Below are some examples:

Remove Rubbish: Litter is unattractive, harmful to wildlife and can increase vermin and disease. We plan our trips to reduce rubbish and carry out what you carry in.

Treat accommodation and host family with respect: It doesn’t matter if you are camping, lodging, staying with a host family, or in a hotel – we make sure that no trace of our visit is left.

Respect Jordan’s culture and heritage: Many places in Jordan have cultural or historical significance. We make sure that these are treated with consideration and respect. Wherever our tour involves visits during rituals, holy months and festive events for example we make sure we receive permission from the community, group or individual concerned, based on recognition, respect and cooperation. We have also helped establishing awareness programs on the importance of jordan’s culture and heritage in collaboration with concerned ministries in the country i.e the ministry of Education, culture and Tourism as they deal with a large sector of the Jordanian population on different levels.

Consider other people: We are always considerate of locals and other travellers, who all have the right to enjoy Jordan’s beautiful surroundings. For example when selecting a campsite we choose a site away from the trail and away from other groups. We keep noise down in camp so as not to disturb other campers or those passing by on the trail.

Furthermore, our clients may be asked by tour leaders or by the crew mwmbers of the hotels we work with to:
• Turn off the lights, air conditioning, fans, TV when leaving a room
• Reconsider using air conditioning if possible
• Reconsider whether they need new towels every day and let the hotel know if they would prefer to reuse their towels – this would reduce water used and reduce the amount of detergents in the waste water which ends up in the sewer system / water ways / ocean
• Consider taking a short shower once daily rather than a bath

We are very much aware of the impact of tourism on the destinations - whether it is, economically, socially or environmentally. We aim, through a series of responsible tourism practices, to maximise the positive and minimise the negative impacts to ensure the long term sustainability of our destinations and their communities. We collaborate with local communities and local people in showcasing their country to the world through truly distinguished visitor experiences. For example we collaborate with Wadi Musa women’s association by providing some eco experiences such as “Shrak Bread Baking” which also benefits local drivers and local guides.

We are a Responsible Travel tour operator out of a combination of a love of Jordan and travel, with a desire to actively work with and support local communities. We endeavour to taking you to places that represent the very essence of Jordan, to provide you with experiences that will remain embedded in your memories for life and to demonstrate how responsible travel results in more fulfilling and enjoyable holidays. We have created a special local experience “cooking in Jordan in the outdoor” which is a real treat and the ultimate destination dining experience. In a stunning location, in the surrounds of Petra, travellers learn to cook a traditional Jordanian Meal. Enjoy the flavors that cooking in Jordan over an open fire impart. A local English speaking host, who will double as a “Chef”, will meet you at a designated meeting point. You will be accompanied to your outdoor location for your cooking in Jordan experience. This experience involves local drivers and locally produced food.

Our holidays are designed to show you the real places, nature and culture in Jordan avoiding resorts that have been `manufactured’ for tourists. We introduce you to local people, their cultures and traditions, and combine places that are `off the beaten track’ with more famous `must-see’ destinations. The result is a travel experience that is unique, varied, exhilarating, relaxing and fulfilling, leaving you with a clear conscience while providing benefits to local people and creating employment opportunities to people from the local communities. For example, we took part with a Dutch charity organization in building children’s outdoor play area in Al Azraq.

We also try to help local communities and involve them in our programs and camps where couriers and guides are recruited from the locality of the trip being arranged. We support and promote our porters and guides and ensure they are not exploited and that they are fairly paid.

4 out of 5 stars

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

Loved Petra! And the location of the Movenpick hotel was perfect!

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

We spent our first night at the Regency Palace in Amman. The next day we drove to the Dead Sea and backtracked towards the airport. It would be better to stay at the airport hotel saving an hour and half of driving time. The Regency is in dire need of an update. Peeling sinks, cracked surfaces, etc. I asked for an updated room but got the same old room. FYI, smoking is allowed in all the facilities of the hotel.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes. Drivers and guides were local folks. The places we stayed helped their economy. The hotels all practiced water conservation of linens and towels. On the negative is plastic water bottles are used everywhere. Refillable bottles should be promoted.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

All of our accommodations were great with the exception of the Regency Palace. The upgraded Jr. suite was amazing and well worth the extra $30/night in my opinion. Very easy to work with drivers and guides!
