Description of Austria yoga & meditation retreat

Join this retreat to enjoy daily movement, crisp mountain air, deep relaxation, and plant-based food made with love.

On the week of 13th of July MoaAlm offers you a week long yoga retreat at our beautiful home in the meadows and mountains of Austria. You are invited to stretch, release, rejuvenate and meditate in the stunning landscape of the Tyrol Alps. Situated under Austria’s highest peak, discover a space to promote self-care and switch the mind from a state of turbulence to the bliss of nature, restore your batteries, increase mobility, and reconnect with your body.

This yoga week includes asanas (postures), different meditation techniques, pranayama (breathwork) and a few insights to the yogic philosophy. Therefore, you will experience one hour of energising, movement and breath focused morning yoga, one hour of restorative afternoon yoga, as well as 30 minutes of guided meditation.

The active practice will mobilise your spine and stabilise, strengthen and work your range of motion. Restorative yoga is about slowing down and opening the body through passive stretching to relax the muscles deeply and restore the free flow of breath. Additionally, we are happy to introduce you to an afternoon of fun and trust building partner and Acro-yoga.

It doesn’t matter if this is your first time being introduced to yoga or if you already have a personal practice, we do our best to satisfy your individual needs. Also remember, it is not about being “good” at yoga, if you can breathe you can do yoga. MoaAlm is not just a mountain get-away, we love to inspire and give you tools to take your practice home.

Besides the program you have time to soak in our wood fired hot-tub, sweat out any accumulated stress, taste a glass of a delicious, local wine or wander through the forest with the sound of birds in your ears, try your best on the slack line or socialise in the comfortable communal lounge.

Together with a three-course plant-based menu, guided nature hikes in the surrounding mountains with our local guide and a fun-loving team, this week is full of everything that makes yoga an integral practice on and off your mat.

Highlights:

-Introduction to Acro yoga
-Guided hiking through the Hohe Tauern national park
-Daily yoga classes and guided meditations in a panoramic mountain studio
-Stunning remote mountain location in Hohe Tauern National Park
-Outdoor hot tub with amazing mountain views
-Delicious plant based food
-7 nights accommodation

In January 2018 MoaAlm Mountain Retreat was featured by The Guardian newspaper as one of the best retreats in the world for mind, body and spirit breaks.

Environment

MoaAlm is situated at 1800m, it is 2km up the mountain from the settlement of Taurer, a fragile environment which it is our goal to protect.

Some days may involve carrying a picnic on a hike - guests will be actively involved in carrying out waste. Our water is supplied directly from a mountain spring and our heating system is a brand new 'eco' pellet burning system. The P4 pellet system has won many international quality awards in EU and USA, the most prestigious of all are the Blue Angel and the Austrian Ecolabel. Even in winter our south facing position can also provide supplementary energy from our solar bank.

Natural materials have been used in the construction and renovation of MoaAlm where possible and we have been pleased to find a number of high quality, locally produced materials to use in the refurbishment. The local tradesmen we employ are highly skilled, particularly in mediums of wood, stone and locally-produced felt.

Community

Guests will eat out for lunch on occasion and one evening at locally-run recommended restaurants.

The area also has an excellent ski school and advanced mountain guiding network of instructors that guests may choose to take advantage of. All fresh food and drink will be sourced locally where possible.

We will be employing a team of 4 local full time staff who will receive a generous package of accommodation, food, ski pass and salary. Opportunities will also be available through our staff incentive scheme to participate in training courses annually. This scheme is in place to encourage staff to make this a rewarding full time lifestyle choice that can be sustainable rather than just a seasonal short term option.
