Responsible tourism: Bali and Lombok honeymoon

Environment

Throughout this itinerary we’ve selected small-scale, authentic accommodation with plenty of local charm. By using small-scale hotels and guest-houses we reduce the impact on the environment compared with larger properties.

Our local partners in Indonesia are on board with the need to recycle. They donate used paper to local people who make a living by collecting waste items.

Meanwhile, in our offices in sunny Brighton we’re also trying to do our bit. We work hard to consciously recycle as much waste as possible. We’ve even managed to implement a system to ensure our food waste is composted instead of ending up in landfill.

It is important to drink water when you are in hot countries to keep hydrated. There are various spots around Ubud and other areas in Bali where you can refill bottles instead of purchasing new plastic bottles all the time. We recommend our customers do this rather than wasting lots of plastic and we can help you find the areas to refill.

Our local partners in Indonesia are also on board with the need to recycle. They donate used paper to local people who make a living by collecting waste items.

We use local guides in the volcanic areas of Rinjani who are well trained and qualified in the area.

Our upgraded accommodation on Gili Meno recycle 100% of their water and believe in eco friendly practices wherever possible. This hotel is perfect for a honeymoon as we include a romantic dinner at their sustainable friendly restaurant on the beach.

Community

During this itinerary, you'll also visit the local cottage industries of Ubud. One of these is a local coffee plantation where you'll learn about the art of coffee production. The plantation provides employment for the local community and you can buy coffee directly from the plantation's shop.

All of the transport we use in Bali and Lombok is with private car and driver. The drivers that we use are all local so you will be directly supporting the local community.

In Indonesia we support a local project and give you the chance to make a small donation when you book with us. We are really proud to support a school fund for girls in east Bali set up by a Dutch couple in Seraya. With the help of their guests, Els and Hans have set up the fund to provide secondary school scholarships for young girls from underprivileged families. On Bali, young boys are encouraged to continue their education after primary school but there’s often not enough money to send girls to school. Els and Hans are involved in the education of local girls and work together with the teachers to determine which girls are eligible for a scholarship.

You have the opportunity to explore the local Sasak villages in Lombok where you can purchase local handicrafts to directly support the local community while learning about the culture as well.
