Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Our holidays at Tours du Tarn are committed to promoting the use of cycling as a real method of sustainable transport where our Road and Leisure holidays enable our guests to explore as far as a 40 mile radius , taking in the Tarn, the Tarn et garonne and Aveyron and truly demonstrating the beauty and very best of the region can be experienced by bike and as part of your stay with us.

Each day our hand designed routes provide plenty of opportunity to visit and actively participate in everything the region has to offer. Here your leisure tour begins with a visit to the well known Saint Antonin-noble-val market, which on a Sunday is a hive of activity and a chance to soak up the buzzing atmosphere and taste produce from across the region. This includes local cheese such as Le Pic, a goats cheese supplier merely a few minutes from the market, eggs from chickens just a few steps from our door or fruit and vegetables supplied by the farmers and fields that you encounter as you cycle.

This type of slow grown food helps to reduce our carbon footprint and bring top quality taste and seasonality to our menus, which come as three courses every night of your holiday. This can include dishes such as asparagus wrapped in Aveyron ham, beef tomatoes with Toulouse sausage in a caper dressing or perhaps warm goats cheese dressed in walnuts and honey. We complement the meals we provide and cook on site, with full bodied wine from the Gaillac region; producers of red, rose, white and delicate sparkling wines and whose vineyards form a key component of your holiday, where you will not only take in the vistas of these vineyards by eye but also having will have the opportunity to meet with the producers themselves as you pop by to Domaine Bourget or Saint Emille for a spot of twine tasting.

Our approach to catering is fully complete, when we ensure we compost any food waste produced by preparing these dishes. We ask that our guests take responsibility for this too by composting and recycling whilst staying in La Grange – your ensuite accommodation for the week.

We believe these small gestures make a difference environmentally, which is why we provide chilled tap water for guests supply Bidons for the bikes rather than small disposable bottles. Furthermore, by collecting rain water from the rooves of our accommodation, we can maintain our site in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.

Our small group of four, run your holiday all from one base - something we value so that our guests can explore without having to move their belongings from place to place and helping to ensure reduce our use of non sustainable transport methods for pick ups or drop off.

This is also why we promote arriving to us by train which although rural, has access and links to the major train hubs such as Toulouse, Albi and Montauban.

The Impacts of this Trip

France is a wonderful country that takes life slowly, so it makes sense that one of the best ways to see it is on two wheels as it not only provides the chance to take in your surroundings with little environmental impact but also to meet the people Living and working in the region.

Living and working here ourselves means that for all our holidays, guided or non- guided, the knowledge we have gained from our friends and neighbours, we incorporate into your tour and ensures our guests and the region can benefit. Here your holiday embraces the stunning hilltop villages of the region that although have not changed visually in hundreds of years, now rely on tourism rather than farming. These villages provide the pinnacle to a day in the saddle they offer not only unique charm, and character but a chance to actively participate in the local economy. Perhaps it’s at the beautiful Cordes-sur-ciel the stunning village “in the sky” or the medieval town of Saint Antonin noble-val, which are both filled with galleries and shops showcasing an abundance of handmade products by local artists, makers and artisans, or perhaps a visit to the dramatic Najac castle, an imposing châteaux that overlooks the valleys of the Aveyron.

During your stay in this beautiful region we aim to create mutually beneficial relationship between those living in the region and our guests , all the while increasing awareness for the vast array of wildlife that is accessible from our doorstep. Cuckoo’s, Woodpeckers, Buzzards and Deer can all be seen from our cycling base, or further a field as you as you encounter Booted eagles and Boar whilst cycling past the Gresigne Forest. An area of 3600 hectares, due to lack of human impact, it is one of the largest oak forests in Europe and by using cycling as our means of exploration, we can actively support this.

Overall, we hope that through our tours we can:

Showcase the natural landscape and sights of the Tarn with little environmental impact, enable our guests to engage with local history, traditions, culture and cuisine, encourage interaction and contribution to the local economy, so that ultimately all of this combines to create an engaging and informative holiday to remember.
