Description of Cambodia Photography holiday, Siem Reap

This Cambodia photography holiday, Siem Reap is designed for anyone enthusiastic about travel and photography, eager to broaden their photography knowledge and experience, and hoping to pick up some new tricks. This is a small group holiday (maximum 10 people), and you’ll be travelling with like minded people to wonderful locations to take some really memorable photographs. The small group size means everyone benefits from one-to-one attention from the two professional photographers, Matt and Andreea, who will be accompanying you, with a mix of group and personal tuition, reviews and feedback.

Each day, Matt and Andreea will offer advice tailored to the needs of the group, and pre-trip consultations will help them assess everyone’s interests and abilities. While in Cambodia, they will hold short workshops or individual sessions, highlighting techniques or how to use specific equipment, making sure it’s relevant to the photography opportunities of each day.

The tour caters for all levels of photography experience, with Matt and Andreea happy to offer as much or as little tuition as you want. Everything is optional – workshops, feedback sessions, everything! – so you’re free to take what you like from this holiday. Matt and Andreea will also be available to help throughout each day, unless it’s specified as free time, and you can ask for help on a completely ad hoc basis or schedule time with them to look back over your work or grab some advice.

This five day holiday is based in Siem Reap, close to the famous and very photogenic temples of Angkor. Siem Reap itself has much to offer, too, and there will be plenty of chances to photograph and enjoy the everyday street life here. Our detailed itinerary explains more about what you can expect to cover on this holiday.

This holiday takes place in May and includes four nights in a luxury hotel in central Siem Reap, all transport and transfers, entrance fees and a traditional Apsara dance show and dinner.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Cambodia Photography holiday, Siem Reap

We only run a couple of photography tours each year and we have a maximum group size of 10, thus keeping the environmental impact of international flights to a minimum. We don’t include flights in our package to allow participants all over the world to make the best and most cost and environmentally effective travel arrangements for themselves (e.g. combining with other trips planned in the same area).
Our Cambodia (Siem Reap) trip has visiting the Angkor sites at the core, which is ticketed for access, and we include these fees in our tour price, thus contributing to their preservation and maintenance.
As photographers of many genres including wildlife, we only work with what’s presented to us and we highly discourage any intrusive interaction with animals to provoke a reaction, which we consider an unethical and unfair practice. We guide our students to adopt the same policy.
We will use only local transport and organise it in a way that is the most effective and environment-friendly.

We purchase our gifts and souvenirs from family businesses, local markets as well as organised local charities promoting welfare of local residents and we never haggle! While doing so, we are very mindful not to inadvertently encourage child labour, as we believe all children should be in schools, not selling on the streets, as hard as the realities on the ground may be. We encourage our photography tour participants to adopt the same practices. This is embedded in our tour structure where we aim to stay and eat local, visit local markets and stay in family-run accommodation.
We actively encourage staying, eating and shopping local, and not using international chains, and we arrange all accommodation, travel and meals accordingly and directly at source inasmuch as possible, to maximise value for both our customers and local providers.
While encouraging our customers to be creative and always seek new points of view and ways of creating images, we actively discourage practicing photography that is too intrusive to either people, nature and wildlife, or which depicts social situations in a way that is derogative, insensitive or offensive.
