Learn Spanish and mountain bike in Sierra Nevada, Spain
Description of Learn Spanish and mountain bike in Sierra Nevada, Spain
There is nowhere better than the province of Granada to learn Spanish for five mornings a week and go mountain biking for a couple of afternoons in the stunning Sierra Nevada National Park.
This tailor made week away is designed to immerse travellers in the culture and landscapes of southern Spain from a series of completely different angles.
A choice of mountain biking routes allows for an exciting and flexible itinerary with ascents into the mountains above Granada accessing some awesome views of the city prior to heading into the cave pocked hillsides of Sacramonte for tapas and Flamenco evenings.
The pine and oak covered hillsides of the Sierra de Huetor are also extremely gratifying for mountain bikers and some of the often snow-covered views over the northern peaks of the high Sierra are truly breath-taking.
Following a local mountain biking guide allows cyclists to benefit from personal insights and recommendations as well as encouraging continued Spanish language practise in an informal and relaxed environment.
One of the best ways to unwind after an afternoon in the saddle is to take a trip to Granada's Arab baths for a good old soak followed by a massage and stretch on the hot stone slabs. Of course, tapas tours also do the trick as well as offering more opportunities to become immersed in the language and laughter of southern Spain.
If you want to find out more about our mountain biking routes, Spanish language classes and wide choice of accommodation styles, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help. Muchas gracias!
PlanetWE SUPPORT SLOW TOURISM
Responsible travel means assessing our effect on the environment, local cultures and economies, and acting in a way that makes our impact as positive as possible. We encourage our staff and clients to adopt environmentally friendly actions such as paper recycling, information sessions about water saving at the accommodations, initiatives purchasing FCS or recycled office supplies whenever possible, travelling by bus or train for inland trips, and walking, riding a bike or taking public transport within the city.
COMMITTMENT WITH LOCAL HOST FAMILIES
We recommend an accommodation with a local host family. We have known and worked with the same families for a very long time. The families are experienced in hosting foreign students and they do their best to make your stay enjoyable. We are committed with these families and only charge a small commission from the rent in order to cover administration costs. Rents correspond to the living standards in the city.
COMMITTMENT WITH LOCAL SUPLLIERS
We intend to cooperate with local service providers and guides in order to promote the economy of Granada. We organize the package Spanish & Mountain biking in collaboration with the guides of the local company Pedales de Granada.
The Sierra Nevada national and natural park is a paradise for bikers, with an incredible range of scenery on offer. Sierra Nevada is already the twelfth Spanish national park. The Congress of the deputies approved the declaration of this natural space, which will arrange 86,000 hectares with the highest legal and environmental protection. Sierra Nevada has now the resources necessary to start up the figures of integral protection that needs a space where the greater biodiversity of the continent is concentrated. The ski resort is outside the limits of the national park.
The law assures for this natural space the highest anticipated environmental protection in the legislation, as well as the care of its ecosystems and the maintenance of the valuable biodiversity that presents/displays the massif of Andalusia. Its declaration as national park is the key for the maintenance of its natural values, landscaping and the special economy of its little settlers.
As a part of our programme our guides organize a visit to the information center El Dornajo. This centre offers a very original opportunity to discover a nature area. The visitor is accompanied by famous figures, scientists and romantic travellers on a historical tour of these mysterious lands, thus acquiring an idea of their rich natural and cultural heritage. The tour also shows how Sierra Nevada can be considered a biodiversity reserve of great international importance thanks to the large number of endemic species it supports. Ethnographically, the exhibition also covers traditional activities such as agriculture, mining, the medicinal use of mineral and thermal waters and the creation of snow wells.
PeopleBeing responsible is integral to our role. We try to ensure that each and every student joins us in this objective and actively helps to preserve the environment and support the local community. The local community is very important to our work as we are based in a working class district.
We are committed to preserving and supporting our local environment and traditional community. Our school is small and independent and plays a big role in the local community and takes an active part in decision making.
Our teachers and guides are employed from the local area as they can provide our students with the most in-depth knowledge about the city and the natural parks in Granada Province.
All of our daily activities are focused around presenting the true history and ethos of Granada and Andalusia. Not only do we visit the obvious places of interest like the Alhambra or the Cathedral, but we ensure that we provide a different view of Granada by organizing outdoor activities such as mountain biking or visiting guitar makers and potters for example.
The activities are integral to our mission in both teaching Spanish and demonstrating the real Granada and its surroundings.
We realize how important tourism is to the local community and to ourselves and so we try to ensure that everyone benefits. This is why we encourage our students to visit the local shops and stores so that they can help the local shop owners and enjoy the local products.
