Description of Puglia wine and culture holiday

At its most beautiful between late summer and autumn, which not coincidentally is when this small group tour operates, Puglia is one of Italy’s most fertile regions of wine and culture. Over eight days, led by a professional tour leader, you will explore magnificent historic towns such as Polignano a Mare, Conversano and Bari; enjoy a smattering of wine tasting sessions in prestigious vineyards and wineries; feast on locally produced cuisine and benefit from a multitude of opportunities to meet the welcoming people of Puglia, learning about their lives, culture and industry. Every step of the way, this itinerary shines with authenticity – you couldn’t ask for a more satisfying immersion into the culture of Puglia.

You’ll stay at a small, family-run accommodation in the countryside, where it’s easy to sink into the slower rhythms of life. Here you can snack on their own home-produced meats and cheeses, before you begin exploring further afield.

On a tour such as this, pinpointing the highlights can be tricky. Will it be the views over the Apulian coastline from the limestone cliffs of Polignano a Mare? Touring the labyrinthine streets of Conversano and Ostuni with a knowledgeable guide? Meeting the skilled craftsmen of Grottaglie, jewel in the crown of the famed Puglia ceramics industry? Or admiring the traditional Trulli in the UNESCO site of Alberobello?

For those with a taste for rural Italian cuisine, the opportunities to discover new and classic dishes will prove sublime. For those interested in expanding their knowledge of Italian wine and perhaps also their cellars at home, there will be plenty to enjoy. And for those with a passion for history, there are fascinating Roman archaeological sites, superbly preserved and fine decorated vases, and endless stories of Puglia and its people down through the ages.

This trip will prove one of the highpoints of your year, and if you’ve never visited Puglia before, you will soon understand why it’s a region that has a way of keeping people coming back time and again.

Puglia wine and culture holiday

Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

Environment

As a small size local tour operator, we are passionate and enthusiastic about our region, offering journeys that benefit both local communities as well as our guests. Through this travel you discover the Apulian history of Wine from the antiquity to the present: Our main purpose is to propagate a sustainable culture and economy of Wine, as an element of sociality as well as a social identity.

Even if every day you will enjoy new places, the driven distances are reduced to the essential, making possible a variety of landscapes and experiences by a low hydrocarbon impact.
All meals are based on seasonal local food for the transport minimizing and the preservation of traditional farm and biodiversity.
Furthermore the tour leader will recommend at any purchase to avoid single-use-plastic-bag and in general single-use-packaging.

In our office: We started from our working place by lowering resources consumption, in fact we just use materials with longer life; we reduce as much as possible wastes and use the corresponding differentiated collection.

Community

We are convinced that conversations about Wine through different subjects (history, religion, production) can facilitate interactions between guests and local people as a path for intellectual enrichment in both directions. We would like also to encourage new perspectives to the natural and artistic heritage of South Italy, as a new way of enjoying unknown places and monuments.

During last decades the tourist flow in Puglia increased and today it is difficult for travelers, especially for foreigners, to discern touristy places from shops and restaurants favorite by locals, as we do. Moreover, by escaping mass tourism places, we contribute to avoid the visitors concentration that represents actually a serious problem in some part of Italy.

The family run accommodation on the country side ensures also the proximity to the land and its slower rhythm; in general we only collaborate with local companies and local guides to guarantee a sustainable further use of tourist incomes.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?

I loved our accommodation and meals. The trip provided an excellent overview of wine production in the region - from growing to production to tasting. Piero was extremely well informed about the history and culture of the area. From ancient ruins to medieval cities to modern ports. It was an overall great experience.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?

Relax and enjoy. Piero is a delightful well informed guide. Be flexible and remain open to change. We were able to adjust the itinerary and visited Piero's father and brother as they harvested grapes. We also visited a small organic farm which was of interest to us.

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, reduced environmental impacts or supported conservation?

Yes, all of the activities and restaurants were local. Piero's values are very much aligned with ours in terms of conservation.

4. Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

The best tour I have taken.
