Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Lima highlights tour

Visitors will learn more about environmental challenges that different groups of people face in Lima. This tour aims to bring awareness on important environmental issues in urban areas such as waste management, water issues, pollution, public health, sustainable food supply and the effects of climate change.

Visitors are strongly encouraged to follow certain guidelines to make sure they do not leave a negative environmental footprint (for instance bringing your own reusable water bottle and not leaving garbage behind) and they are given some more tips and instructions upon arrival. Tourists can act as a good example for the local population by recycling, picking up waste and not using single-use plastic bags.

Our tours support projects that are aimed at conserving Peru's environment, such as sustainable agriculture according to traditional indigenous principles, environmental education for kids living in urban areas in the Amazon region and similar projects.

When feasible, we offer the option of public transportation for the tours to visitors. In addition, our van runs on LPG instead of on gasoline, which is more environmentally friendly.

All our tours respect and promote the host communitiesí culture. Activities on all our tours focus on the traditions and local culture and reality of the visited communities and have an additional educational function. The tours generate encourages communities to conserve these traditions.

We aim to provide an authentic experience for tourists and a culturally sensitive, respectful encounter between tourists and hosts. Nothing is put into scene and people are not asked to pretend or act differently than they normally do. Tourists are informed about the particular culture and customs in the community they will visit before they arrive and they will be made aware of any rules of behavior they should respect.

This tour includes visits to social projects and not only aims to raise awareness about certain social issues but also directly benefits the organisations visited. In addition, the tour generates extra income to families, mainly single parent families, in these marginalised areas of Lima.
