Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

We are promoting the natural beauty and ancient heritage of Oman through visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Bahla Fort. UNESCO Sites are chosen by the UNESCO committee and must "bear a unique or at least exceptional testimony to a cultural tradition or to civilisation", "an important interchange of human values" or be outstanding examples of major stages of Earth's history or ecological and biological processes in evolution. Visiting such sites helps sustain the traditions and natural ecosystems of Oman.

This is particularly relevant on a tour such as this one since we will be walking though fragile sites and delicate ecosystems from days 4-14 as we trek over the Fergana Range. By keeping the group size to a maximum of 12, we can also minimise the human impact on the fragile sites we visit.

We attempt to reduce plastic bottle use wherever possible by promoting use of reusable and filtered water bottles. Our partnership with Water-To-Go provides a discount on filtered water bottles to our clients. We do not provide water from plastic bottles to our clients in country but always ensure there is regular access to drinking water on our tours.

The Impacts of this Trip

On this particular tour we explore the Fjords of the Musandam by privately chartered traditional dhows. The money spent on this trip contributes directly to the maintenance of these beautiful boats. Our journey through Oman also includes a visit to the magnificent mosque of Sultan Qaboos as well as the isolated. The money that is spent on entrance fees directly contributes to the maintenance to many of the sights that we visit.

On day 6 & 7 on the Dhow, we give our clients the opportunity to discover small fishing villages off the Musandam Peninsula, as well as engaging directly with the local fisherman and seeing them at work. Cross cultural exchange is a key feature on all of our tours ensuring that small scale, remote local economies are supported through our visit there.

We believe it is important to show respect for local traditions, cultures and history. For this reason our adventure takes us to the beehive tombs near the Salmah plateau providing a direct insight into the diverse local cultures and rich history. On Day 4, we will be staying in a Bedouin style tent in the desert. These are designed around semi-nomadic settlements of Bedouin and staying here you will understand the Bedouin culture and how they survive in such harsh conditions.
