Enjoy a round-trip tour of western Finland, beginning and ending in Helsinki, with this self-drive holiday that is aimed at adventurous families with children aged 12 and under.A short drive from Helsinki Airport after picking up your rental car brings you to a sports hotel, where you’ll spend a couple of nights. A range of lake activities is available to you, as is sightseeing in the old capital, Turku, nearby. See the castle, the archaeological excavations of Aboa Vetus, or the museum ship.
Continuing on to Naantali, a definite highlight of the tour is sure to be a visit to Moominland. The world of Tove Jansson’s cute and iconic hippo-like characters is brought to life on a fairytale island – Finnish people have been brought up on the Moomins for generations and they’re sure to be beloved by your own kids.
You’ll take the car ferry over to Aland, a summer paradise with beaches, a crisp factory(!), a castle and the Smart Park in Eckero, where kids learn through play. There’s adventure golf, Segway tours and a chance for children to drive their own vehicles while their parents take a break from the wheel.
Returning to Helsinki by ferry, you'll stay in a seaside hotel as you visit the UNESCO-listed Suomellina sea fortress, spend some time on the beach with a picnic, and finish with a day at an amusement park.
With Moomins, castles, beaches, amusement parks and a crisp factory, this Finland family holiday has all the ingredients for a memorable getaway, as well as the freedom of a self-drive tour to do your own thing if you feel.

The Impacts of this Trip
On this tour you will stay in locally owned hotels and small guesthouses and get to know the Mumins, characters created by a Finnish writer Tove Jansson for her children's books. You will learn about history of the country visiting the old capitol Turku, the self-governed island Åland and Suomenlinna fortress. On the Åland island local people get their income from agriculture and shipping. The main product is potato. We have included a stop at the factory shop of a local potato chip producer Taffel. Later you will visit an activity park, where children can learn, how the production chain of agricultural products work by transporting potatoes to a potato chip factory. On Åland you will stay in a small guesthouse run by a local family. In Helsinki we have included also a visit to the amusement park Linnanmäki, which is run by foundation called Lasten Päivän Säätiö founded in 1957 for child caring. In 2016 they donated 4,3million euros for child care so our guest families will not only have a fun day at the amusement park but also support Finnish child care organisations.
