Description of Lithuania highlights holiday

Departing from Vilnius with its handsome baroque architecture, this nine-day tailormade tour of Lithuania takes you from city to country and back again, beginning in the historic capital, Trakai. Admire the beautiful 14th century island castle here, and sample some ‘kibinais’, traditional ethnic pastries.

An early highlight is sure to be a guided tour around a Soviet-era nuclear power plant, once the biggest in the world. You’ll get to see inside the control room and stand on top of a reactor.

From technology to nature, as you spend a day in the countryside around Kaunas. Often known as ‘Little Paris’ for its architecture and cafe culture, Kaunas also has a fun Soviet-era amusement park where you can enjoy the rides.

Panemune Castle, by the Nemunas river, makes for a great photo opportunity as you head towards the idyllic Curonian Lagoon which is dotted with tiny fisherman’s villages. You’ll enjoy superb views from the lighthouse, and have the option to savour some fresh-caught fish, and have a traditional sauna with the locals. The forested Curonian Spit is a very popular holiday destination, pretty and with an artistic vibe. It’s also where you’ll see the Parnidis sand dunes, the largest moving dunes in Europe.

In the port city of Klapeida, you’ll visit the Amber Museum, and see countless insects, spiders and plants enveloped in the golden droplets. Returning to Vilnius, there will be a stop at the iconic Hill of Crosses near Šiauliai. This forest of religious imagery served as a pilgrimage site during Soviet times, its origins mysterious. It’s certain to be among the most striking moments of your trip.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Lithuania highlights holiday

During this tour we visit Curonian Spit – UNESCO World Heritage protected nature and man’s creation. This visit is valuable for both: the travelers can admire beautiful sand dunes, wild beaches and pine forests. They can also get to know more about Curonian Spit’s cultural heritage. Since this place needs to be protected to outlast, the entrance fees really help to support it.

During this tour we spend a lot of time in nature, but we never forget to respect it – take all our rubbish with us (and pick up the ones we see), don’t get out of the special trails (especially when we are in the swamp or Parnidis dune), to watch our steps.

We drink our tap water in the city, and encourage our travellers not to use disposable plastic where possible. We always recommend it to do it for our travelers. When visiting small villages, we always encourage our travelers to drink well water, taste local vegetables and fruits.

Visiting places undiscovered by mass tourism gives us a chance to introduce our travellers to local crafters and their practices. These experiences benefit both the locals and our travellers who experience real local culture. For example on this trip they will meet local fisherman, and taste fresh local meals like freshly smoked fish, caught and prepared by them or try Lithuanian bread, baked by a local baker according to old traditional recipe. We are glad that our suppliers are always prepared to show the best they have, to tell the best they know.

We recommend our travelers visit local souvenir, clothes shops. Since Lithuania is famous for its linen and amber production – this is always interesting for our guests. This is also allows local crafters to sell their handmade productions which is one good way to support local economy.

Visiting locals is not just about the interaction, it’s win-win situation: the tourist gets a high quality, not massive production product, and the crafter gets additional income. And that is really important for local crafters.
