Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

The natural environments that we travel in is fragile and abundant with precious culture and traditions that are often reliant on tourism. Travelers have a responsibility as visitors to minimize the impact of their presence, protect what is delicate and where they can, leave a positive influence on the environment.

During Panafest awareness about environmental issues such as ''THE GREEN PROJECT'' which is about empowering the masses of the Ghanaian people to conserve the forest and also see to it that every tree that is cut down must be replanted to enable our forest remain are presented. Travelers are also educated to contribute by donating to support such project.

Similarly, in conjunction with our local team we work with hotels and guesthouses to implement best practices when it comes to environmental matters – again in some places this is far behind what we might be used to in other parts of the world. This includes basic things like not replacing towels each day, as well as saving electricity and turning lights off.

Our travelers are specifically briefed not to buy items illegal artifacts from our museums. This also extends to archaeological items – and we specifically advise our travelers against contributing to the depletion of local populations.

We employ local guides to explain the history and culture to travelers. For an indigenous culture that has stayed largely separated from the surrounding majority, tourism can present both advantages and problems. On the positive side are the unique cultural practices and arts that attract the curiosity of tourists and provide opportunities for tourism and economic development. On the negative side is the issue of how to control tourism so that those same cultural amenities are not destroyed and the people do not feel violated so we make sure that the locals are not left out by employing them as tour guides and caterers. We always use accommodation facilities which are locally owned.

As with many of the trips that we offer, this tour has a strong focus on local culture and different ethnic groups. Where possible we try to ensure that local people benefit from our presence.

We spend time with a number of different ethnic groups on this trip. We consult extensively with local tribal elders to ensure that our presence here is very much welcomed – we feel that it is very important to be seen as guests here rather than outsiders come to merely look. We are able to spend time with the communities learning about their traditions and customs.

We support the charity 'Children in the Wilderness' which is a program dedicated to helping children whose childhoods have been disrupted by life threatening conditions such as illness, extreme poverty and the HIV / AIDS epidemic. Using environmental education, therapeutic reaction and good old fashioned fun, Children in the Wilderness creates an awareness of interpersonal skills, an increased involvement in the environment while fostering the creative spirit. The program gives the children the skills to cope with life’s challenges and educates them with the life skills necessary to actualize their greatest potential, and in the process contributes to instilling a respect and passion for their natural environment.
