Description of Slovakia family activity holiday

Discover the gorgeous snow-covered lumps and bumps of Slovakia on this week-long small group activity holiday. There's no better way to enjoy the winter months other than outdoors before cotching up next to a roaring fire with a bowl full of hearty home made grub. Slovakia is one such location that allows you to do just that plus plenty more besides with winter BBQs and traditional Slovak delicacies conjuring up no end of winter warmth alongside loads of family-friendly activities.

Staying in Slovakia's High Tatras Mountains, in the traditional alpine village of Tatranska Lomnica, your family will get to meet, have fun and share experiences with other families as part of a small group. This sort of experience can be really great for building camaraderie and confidence on the slopes as well as inviting insight into the culture, the food and the language of a lesser-known European country.

Knowledgeable and fun local guides always seek out the most suitable spots so all levels and ages get to experience snow-covered Slovakia in a style and at a pace that's just right for them. From dog-sledding and tobogganing to horse-drawn sleigh rides, skiing and snowboarding, this is one winter holiday that you won't want to let slide.

Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Slovakia family activity holiday

We offer you the opportunity to get to know Slovakia in small groups. This is better for the environment. Where it is practical, we use public transport, such as buses or trams, to get us to our activities. This minimises the impact on the environment and saves travellers money. This money can then be spent in other local places, such as a traditional restaurant, thus benefitting the local economy even more.

For the duration of the trip, our stay will be in the Tatra National Park (TANAP). Their undertaking is to protect the park’s nature, flora and fauna, and by being here, we are helping in this mission. Our local leaders are fully versed in the principles of travelling responsibly in order not to do any damage to the local environment, and these values will all be passed on to our travellers.

We respect the mountains and forests, never go off marked trails during snow-shoeing, adhere to the rules of the National Park, and treat all animals, including the huskies during our sledding experience, with a lot of care and consideration.

Our company ethos is to organise tours for small groups and individuals so people can experience adventure responsibly. As a local, family-run business, we have built-up fantastic relationships with communities throughout Slovakia, and can provide the opportunity to connect with, and experience, local customs, culture and way-of-life first-hand.

During this tour, we will only use local services. We will stay in locally-owned accommodation, which supports small Slovakian businesses. Staff at the hotels we choose will usually be family members, or from the same town, providing income to the local community and a welcome insight into the traditions of Slovakia for our travellers.

We eat in traditional restaurants, so our travellers can sample local delicacies and this trip also includes a very special Slovak-style barbecue. On this holiday, we’ve also included a visit to the typical Goral village of Zdiar. This is a unique collection of traditional wooden houses and barns, and you will learn about this old mountain community from your local guide, thus helping to preserve its heritage for future generations.
