Responsible tourism

As the pioneers of responsible tourism, we screen every trip so you can travel knowing your holiday will help support conservation and local people.

Environment
We try to support understanding, appreciation and conservation of the cultures and environments we visit and as such, we run our tours in a socially and environmentally responsible way.

We run cycling tours, which we believe are an excellent way to explore without impacting the environment in a negative way. As such, we organise our routes carefully and ensure that we tread lightly.

We are efficient in our use of natural resources. While on tour we clear all rubbish, and are careful in our use of soaps, firewood, water, fuel and other items that can negatively impact the environment.

Whenever possible, we use accommodations that are not wasteful of local resources or destructive to the environment. We often camp on our trips - which can be a low impact form of accommodation. If we do, we leave the camp sites we use in same or better condition than we found it. Where possible we use established, locally owned and run camp sites.

Our tours are appropriate to Malagasy conditions. Our group sizes are regulated to minimise cultural and environmental impact. We use expert tour leaders throughout and they will advise you on the best way to observe wildlife inside and outside the parks.

Community

The Impacts of this Trip

The local community are very much a part of all our trips. We work with Malagasy people where possible at all levels, and we provide training where appropriate. For example, we employ site specific Malagasy guides who provide cultural and environmental interpretation.
Training and development is important particularly in terms of cross-training employees to cover more than one job function or task which in turn helps them with their career prospects. Our staff, tour managers, bike mechanics, cooks, driver as well as our office staff benefit from regular First Aid training courses, cooking courses, general knowledge and individual programs.

We use Malagasy businesses and Malagasy services to ensure our partnerships benefit local communities.

We spend time visiting social projects, to learn about culture and way of life. We support social initiatives through financial contributions. We support the Ny Hary NGO and the Alabri centre actively.
