Responsible tourism: Tour de France Cols on an E-Bike
Environment
The accommodation we use for this trip is committed to sustainable development and uses locally sourced produce wherever possible supporting local organic farming initiatives. We use re-usable water bottles and other food containers wherever possible for our trips to minimise waste.
We support local wildlife conservation initiatives and encourage our guests to learn about and better understand the local wildlife of the Alps to encourage a better appreciation of issues facing wildlife in the area.
We operate a paperless office as much as possible to reduce our impact on the environment.
All accommodation suppliers are vetted according to their professionalism and their approach to responsible tourism (using local produce, respect for the environment and promoting the culture of the region). Several of the gites have strong environmental criteria with regard to recycling and reducing their environmental impact. We are about to make a deal with Gite de France to use their eco certified gite suppliers. We dont promote motorised sports.
All our guides are fully trained in environmental sustainability as a part of their diplomas and they educate our clients about the mountain habitat during the activities. We dont print brochures and keep paper use to a minimum in the office preferring electronic distribution as our main means of communication with clients. We provide detailed information on how to behave within the park such as carrying out all litter, no free camping and adhering to the rules of the park.
Community
We use local accommodations, activity providers and guides for all our holidays so that your money is ploughed back into the local community and local actors are supported financially. We do not import seasonal staff from the UK or abroad as we believe in giving the employment opportunities generated by our business to the local people. This provides a much higher quality of local knowledge to our clients and also supports the economy - a win win situation for all involved.
We also pay our guides and accommodation providers the going rate rather than negotiating knock down prices out of respect for our local providers and because we believe in fair trade.
We have chosen a mixture of famous rides as well as some lesser known routes to spread the tourist cycling footprint around and also because some of the lesser known rides are actually nicer!!
We provide a free gift of local produce to all of our clients to promote local products and support local producers.
