Description of Pristine Antarctica holiday

This ten day Antarctica holiday takes you into the heart, coves and inlets of the Antarctic Peninsula during the month of November, which is when the already quiet waters and seascapes are even quieter. It is a beautiful time to experience the freshly blanketed snow, the beginning of nesting season for penguins and the start of whale migration to the south. Starting and ending in Ushuaia, Patagonia, you will be crossing the infamous Drake Passage, but the views and unforgettable Antarctic adventures at the other end make it extremely worthwhile.

The trip is on board the MV Hondius, a vessel exceeding Polar Code sustainability requirements and built as an ice-strengthened vessel as the first polar-class 6 vessel. It accommodates 174 passengers in 82 cabins, all ensuite, with a variety of styles: singles, doubles, portholes and windows and suites. Do talk to us about the various options on offer and pricings.

There are no upgrades on the wildlife and landscape viewing however, as everyone gets to see the same White Continent wonders, including migrating pods of whales, penguin hatch lings spotted in the colonies of penguins and zodiac adventures to get up close and personal with the glaciers, icebergs and dramatic environment of Antarctica.

Carbon reduction

Your holiday will help support local people and conservation. We must also reduce CO2. Learn about the CO2 emissions of this holiday and how to reduce them.

We are excited to be using the new MV Hondius, a vessel which exceeds the environmental recommendations set out by the Polar Code, adopted by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). This is in regards to waste, oil and garbage management, taking the correct precautions to minimise negative environmental impacts. The precautions include using bio-degradable or water based lubricant and disposing of waste on shore. The vessel is also closely aligned with other initiatives such as MARPOL and SOLAS.

To remain environmentally accountable and retain the pristine and and mystical terrain and wildlife of Antarctica, we follow strict rules, guidelines and codes of conduct as members of IAATO.

As a workplace we strive to be sustainable. Our workplace is aiming towards a paperless work space sending things electronically and printing only to order. We also use 100% green energy where possible. We encourage staff to take public transport and have bike payment plan in place for employees to reduce gas emissions.

In preparation for the trip we send out electronic copies of information regarding appropriate interaction with the environment and waste management sustainability initiatives put in place to minimise harm to the environment. Information is also provided by our expedition teams to inform people about the sensitivity of the environment of Antarctica.

Ushuaia as the destination of departure and and returned arrival, is a place where we encourage people to buy appropriate souvenirs and support the local community. We discourage the buying of endangered animal products and/or the buying of items unruly taken from the environment i.e. a shell.

We currently work with three different charities, giving us a broad spectrum and diversifying where our money goes. We work with Project Peru in the UK who run an orphanage in Zapallal in the shanty town outskirts of Lima, ANIA in Peru which is a high profile Peruvian NGO working with children and helps to teach them about their local environment and how to manage it effectively.

We also corroborate with foundations in Australia whom work on several development projects in Latin America and around the world. We help these charities with fundraising treks, donations as a company through our clients and through many of our customers who volunteer their time and expertise. These charities are close to our core of supporting the environment and children in need.
