Responsible tourism

Responsible tourism: Philipines snorkel safari

We are committed to conserving the environment in which we operate. Coastal areas of the Philippines are increasingly feeling the pressure of human influences including over fishing, poorly managed tourism and badly planned habitation. We provide a full environmental briefing prior to all tours educating tour members on the importance of careful diving practices, for those that require additional buoyancy training to ensure protection of the reef this is offered free of charge.

We ask all our tours members to be 'consumption aware'. This refers to the way we wash, use sun lotion, drink water and throughout just about all aspects of the way we live whilst on tour.

Our intention is that all tour members use as little plastic as physically possible whilst on tour, we set a target of the use of just 2 plastic bottles to be used per person throughout the tour. We strive to make sure that water is readily available by other means should you require it.

We aim to ensure maximum levels of income are channeled directly back into the community. All our service providers originate from the local area. Whilst you will be guided by a UK representative for the duration of the tour all snorkel guides and tour guides are Filipino and are local to the region. Snorkel guides are trained up by resorts through internship programs enabling a sustainable career which provides income for their family.

Whilst on tour we encourage a fairer and more sustainable approach to tourism by enlisting the help of porters, shopping at local markets and taking on the services of local people as much as possible.

Part of the cost of your holiday goes towards marine park fees which are used to educate communities about sustainable practices and how to benefit from tourism.

Luckily many people in the Philippines speak good English. This allows us to interact with locals at length and allows for a better cultural exchange to take place.
