This self-guided cycle holiday in the Faroe Islands is a one-of-a-kind trip, offered only by us. Having visited the Faroe Islands on a number of occasions, we were struck by its awesome natural beauty, and of course we want to keep it that way. Many travellers to the islands explore by car, which is a great experience, but we felt that sometimes you miss the real place when you drive through it. Cycling offers an authentic, up-close experience to the country where you’re very much at one with the elements - whether that’s a beautiful sunny day, or a relentless windy or rainy day!

The Faroe Islands sees all weathers and participants need to be prepared for that. Although there will be challenges, the rewards are great as guests are more likely to spot wildlife by bicycle and they are also travelling in an environmentally friendly way. This is totally against the norm on the islands, and we want this trip to be pioneering and potentially game-changing for the tourism industry in the Faroe Islands.

There has been little resource given to cycling on the islands and we hope that this trip will start to fuel demand for cycling and create awareness among islanders and visitors alike. We want cyclists to be commonplace like has happened in the Lofoten Islands in Norway. However, this takes work and behaviour change. Much like in Iceland, the Faroe Islands have received positive global press for amazing travel experiences so visitor numbers are increasing all the time. However, sometimes this comes at a cost where over-tourism can be a burden to local communities. We therefore strongly feel that cycling in the Faroe Islands is a sustainable answer to this problem by reducing motorised traffic. The program also uses small, locally owned accommodations including hotels and guest-houses.

These properties have a good environmental record and encourage good practice such as recycling, energy efficiencies, water use reduction and use of local products in breakfasts.

All of our guests receive recommendations via our travel app which include many small providers, retailers and handicrafts. They are encouraged to visit these local establishments and support them. The Faroe Islands are famous for their woollen garments and of course we provide details of how to locate these items so that craftspeople receive a fair deal for their work.

We also encourage guests to support local restaurants which have a strong favour towards locally sourced produce and offer an authentic flavour of the destination. Local specialities include: lamb, fish, potatoes and dried meats.

We ask that our clients do not eat any whale meat during their holiday in the Faroe Islands.

In addition we want to demonstrate that the Faroe Islands are perfect for cycling and we want to create awareness amongst drivers to ensure the safety of the cyclists and to provide an alternative to driving whilst on holiday. At the moment it is still early days and we have several challenges to overcome, one of which is the subsea tunnels which we must avoid by bicycle as they are dangerous and the air quality is very bad. Instead we provide a support vehicle to transfer guests and bikes.
